Strange aroma, almost like a cellar with a spicy salami sausage. This also comes bakc in the taste. It is a pretty beer to look at. The aftertaste is tingly, watery and sort of empty. Bottle from De Glimburger in Maastricht.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 ElDesmadre (383) - Mikołów, POLAND - MAY 25, 2011
Bottle. Dark reddish brown color with frothy, lasting head. Aroma is roasted malts, nuts, dark grapes and dried fruit - blackcurrant, apricots, raisins. Sweet and heavy, pleasant scent, which the taste falls short of. Much less fruity than the aroma, the taste is dominated by roasted malts, nuts, some metallic elements, dried fruit quite subdued. High carbonation, a bit too watery texture, bitterness low. Decent enough but slightly disappointing.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 talon1117 (1011) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - APR 29, 2011
The pour is nice especially for a dubbel, which tend to be fairly fizzy; a mostly clear, sparkling, deep ruby color with a khaki-colored, full, creamy, rocky head which is mostly lasting and does leave some scattered, foamy lace. The nose is pleasant enough with toasted breads, toasted caramels, maple, slight raisin esters, light spiciness, and some earthy tones. The flavor is okay but flawed with metallic undertones, lots of toasted caramel, some breads, slight raisins and dates, and the same earthiness. The palate is okay with a more than medium body, soft to lively carbonation, and a dry but round mouthfeel. The finish is dry, still fairly sweet with caramel and date, and balanced by the earthy tones. A nice dubbel with the metallic notes being the biggest downfall. Certainly rich and balanced by a nice earthy note but not overly complex. Decent effort but much better examples from Belgium.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 77ships (744) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - APR 9, 2011
bottle@bar: earthly amber/brown coloured with beige head, tasted sweet with heavy emphasis on overripe fruit with nuts, caramel & toffee, roasted malt & some maple syrup, bit light bodied, not that impressive really
