FatPhil (2362), Espoo, Finland Mar 10, 2008 330ml bottle (Bierkoning, Amsterdam) (brewed by 3 Horne)
Rich red, thin but lively beige head. Sweet black tea aroma. Decent carbonation in the mouth. Initial taste a bit thin, but a big sweet malty wave follows. Nutty finish. Very subtle in its strength. altonbrownd (999), Amsterdam, Netherlands Nov 26, 2007 Bottle from Bier Koning. Dark oaky colour. Fast-receding head. Nose of dried berries. Oily texture. Smooth finish. Roasty. Some raisins. Dried fruits. Okay. jbrus (4184), Delft, Netherlands Jan 22, 2007 Bottled. Licorice wood aroma. Hazy, dark brown, beige head, good lace. Yeasty, licorice wood, licorice, sweet, light bitter. Sticky yet watery and unbalanced. sayravai (3183), Helsinki, Finland Dec 23, 2006 (Bottled & Brewed by De 3 Horne) Very dark reddish brown with a medium, foamy and tanned head. Very rye-puddingy, sweet-sourish, raisiny, caramely-malty aroma with dried fruit and hints of alcohol. Sourish-malty, quite sweet, rye-puddingy flavor with even less complexity than in the aroma. Dry and bitter black coffee in the aftertaste. Medium to full-bodied, sticky-syrupy and somewhat ashy palate with a bit foamy carbonation. A simple, straightforward and syrupy dubbel with some alcohol present. A good start, and reasonably enjoyable as such, but needs some product development - either towards a smooth Val-Dieu Winter -like treat, or even drier and more bitter strong porter. MiP (6028), Flensburg, Germany Feb 15, 2006 Bottle. Slightly acidic, irony aroma. Very dark brown muddy colour. Big, stable, light brown head. Flavour is roasted and also slightly acidic. Sweetish with a hint of alcohol. Malty aftertaste and a very late coffee aftertaste. High carbonation.
