Bottle from Stirchley Wines, Birmingham. Clear, very dark, chestnut brown. Halo and film of tan coloured head. Chocolate. Gianduja. Light wood. Taste is thick, caramel sweet. Balancing woody dryness. Cocoa dry palate. Lactic chewiness. More cocoa dryness on the finish. Tooth melting sweetness remains throughout. Very easy to drink.

Beese (1822) - Watford, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - MAY 6, 2014
Draught at the Euston Tap, London on 2 May. Poured black, with a dense tan head. Aroma of cocoa, molasses and fruit cake. Mouth feel was rather rougher than I would expected from the style. Initial flavours were surprisingly not that sweet (thankfully), quite cakey, with some chocolate and brown bread. Finish had some roasted notes, with rye bread and dark chocolate. Much nicer than I thought it might turn out to be; far less sweet.
