Beautiful chocolate and lovely sweetness is what this beer is about. the hints of bitterness. At first I was worried the liquorice would be a bit to much to handle, but it absolutely was not, just a hint of it was in the background. Certainly a Complex beer

Bottle from Pigs Ear Beer Festival, 2015. Jet black pour with a tan head. Keeps it’s head well. Aromas of cinnamon, dark chocolate, coffee roast, licorice toffee, vanilla and cocoa. Big boozy flavours of licorice, bags of dark roast coffee, dark chocolate and roasted sweet spice. Lengthy dryness on the gullet. Full bodied brew, huge alcohol warmth. Long, sweet coffee infused finish. Excellent.

Appearance is opaque jet black, with a large foamy brown head which slowly diminishes. Aroma- chocolate, fudge, leather, vanilla, molasses, toffee, espresso, roast malt. Bitter hops are also detectable. Taste- chocolate and toffee, chocolate biscuit, fudge cake, roasty coffee, brown sugary sweetness, vanilla, coconut, rich fruitcake. Full and thick mouthfeel, like a boozy milkshake. Excellent.

330ml bottle [11.0% abv as per label]. Jet black colour with late awakening, then permanently growing, eventually huge, thick, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, brown head. Chocolately, roasty, dark malty aroma, ostensible notes of cocoa, cocoa powder, enduring notes of liquorice and molasses, a touch of coffee; transient leather overtones and a sugary touch of toffee as well as some vanilla appear additionally while warming up. Taste is moderately sweet dark malty, spicy, notes of liquorice and molasses, a touch of soy sauce; oily, viscous texture, viscid, tacky palate. Overall a bit one-sided and liquorice-accentuated, neither overly complex nor developing over time.
