Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; inky black pour with a thin dark tan head, rich roast coffee aroma, taste is very sweet with some vanilla, rich coffee not in your face alcohol, anise, some chocolate, very good.

From cask @ Cask Pub & Kitchen. Not much of a head on this, well it’s cask, but still. The little filmy dark brown thing quickly sticks to the sides, and the beer itself is as good a pitch black. Totally impossible to see through against the light. I don’t have to lift the glass to get the aroma here. Smells lovely vanillaish with a shitload of burned dark toast and rye bread. Lots of aroma going on here. Dark unsalted licorice, some leather and of it I look long and closely, a little hoppy thing is also present. Dead cask flat on the bubbles and it had a really nice gliding oily feeling in the mouth. This is basically liquefied burned bred. Rye and your oral burned toast. Damn, I really like how this tastes. Was expecting a chocolate bomb, but the chocolate is more like cacao inspired. The burned bread really dominates here. This is one serious well hidden abv beer. Not even a hint of the alcohol here just pure awesome dark burned flavors. Lovely! 08.11.2013

Bottle directly from Siren Brewery, Finchampstead, Berkshire, 20th November 2013, consumed at home Saturday 28th December 2013 Another Impy Stout (I had four tonight) and another Siren beer. This pours much like the other Siren stout, pitch black, shark eye black and leaving an oily coating in the glass. Its really smooth and super indulgent, no chilli or spiciness here, but there is waves of creamy chocolate, with folds of milk chocolate its a bit like a flake it really is rich and smooth. Sweet with some liqourice and there is an oaky, vanilly creaminess. This is lovely. So tonight I had Stone Imperial Stout, Siren Oi Zeus Imperial Stout, Siren Even More Jesus VIII Imperial Stout (this one) and finally Courage Imperial Russian Stout all were bloody great. Cask at Cask PK. Black with littlest tan head. Intense aroma of chocolate, vanilla and licorice. Taste of licorice, dark fruits, plum, date, chocolate, some alcohol. Very flat and oily, thick but cleans nicely leaving chococlate flavour. Nice but personallly I’d prefer more carbo

Bottle from the brewery, at home, 3rd November 13. Pours the darkest, heaviest beer I have poured for a while, slight almost black head, mystical. Aroma is ash, liquorice, molasses. Taste is liquorice, rich molasses, smooth, velvety and rich. Slips down a treat and deceiving at 11 ABV. Nice stuff, would be interested so see how it barrel ages. Very good, but not my favourite impy

Cask at CPK. Viscous black with a thick bubbly dark brown head. Smell is chocolate and muscavado sugar. Body is medium, velvety and not foamy. Taste - smooth malts, chocolate, coffee, hint of bitterness and a trace of sharp alcohol in the finish. Very smooth overall - good balance between the sweetness and the tannins. Really really drinkable at over 11%. Dangerous.

Black with foamy tan head. Oily consistency. Licorice, brown sugar, roasted malts, chocolate, raisins. Sweet and warming, molasses, sweet fruits, chocolate, roasted malt. Slick mouthfeel and good long finish. Very nice indeed.

UPDATED: AUG 3, 2013 Dark and thick chocolate body, luscious tan head. The nose was so rich in moreish, decadent malt it converted Imperial Stout novices. A dense and spirited choc peanut roasted initial taste, like a really good one of those Tracker bars. Soft silky mouthfeel, boozy burn in the most satisfying of ways. Molar dissolving liquorice sweetness. Rich quality right to the dregs, even a third was a few sips too many for some folk. Creamy slither of a finish mops the boozy burn too well.
Astonishing how well balanced this is, Cask has been on for over a week and still tasting this amazing is an accomplishment.

Cask @ Hanging Bat [280713]
Jet black, tan ran rim
Aroma of dark sweet malts, soft mellow roast, liquorice, vinous, red fruits, raisin, port, alcohol well hidden, complex nose
Taste of dark sweet malts, port, touch of chocolate, nice liquorice, dark treacle, warming alcohol, soft molasses, smooth, the thick stuff at the bottom of the glass - yum yum
Palate - Medium body, very smooth. Finish as main flavour, warming alcohol, soft chocolate and port linger
Overall - Just a great impy
