Bottle. Near black with a beige foam. Aromas are vanilla and cream with marzipan icing. Coffee with blackberry and dark chocolate with cherry. Flavours are dark cherry and chocolate with nutty alcohol. Boozy whisky with oak barrel and vinous notes. Coffee bitterness with candy sugar. Easy to drink but lacks condition to be great.

Theydon_Bois (8759) - The ’Sham, Surrey, ENGLAND - JAN 27, 2014
Bottle at Bruce’s pad, big thanks to Paulo for grabbing this one, 16/01/14. Light black with a moderate tan covering that dissipates to a swirl and edgework. Nose is roast malt, coffee, earthy cocoa, light Jimml, dark toffee fudge. Taste comprises roasty tones, chocolate, coffee, sublte Beam, brown sugars. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, smooth on the palate, pitch perfect carbs. Very easy drinker, nice to have a solid flavoursome BA stout in the 7% range!

Bottle. Black with tan head. Aroma has a nice blend of bourbon oak, vanilla, chocolate and coffee. Taste is very balanced, vanilla, wood, roastiness, chocolate, dark fruit and coffee. Body is very thin. Would be much better with some weight behind it but a very tasty beer indeed.

McNeillR (1235) - SCOTLAND - JAN 25, 2014
Mulchy dark brown with slim distant beige/woody brown head. Odd spicy Wooky Hole estery nose with broken Bourbon - bright but oily. Initial taste is a well paced formal slick Stout and a questionable Bourbon bite. Little bit of malt and sweetness. Similar mouthfeel to the nose, oily vibe that starts up properly to a rich bitterness. It’s harder to say what this is doing right - the beer is great before the ageing and it’s not fallen totally on it’s arse. Finishes a bit tacky but the linger is a breeze of Jim, but very cool and nothing fancy.
Bit binding oiliness and doesn’t prove me wrong throughout. Well worth a punt, especially as I can’t think of a Brewery that does this as simply/cheaply/effectively as Siren - well in lads.

Bottle, Beer Ritz, Leeds

Scopey (6941) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 18, 2014
Bottle from Siren. It pours darkest brown with a small beige/ tan head. The nose is charred wood, toast, earth, dark chocolate, light smoke and a touch of spice. The taste is smooth, deep chocolate, roasty, coffee, toffee, charred aspect, light spice and some alcohol warmth with a dry finish. Medium+ body, fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Tasty and well-integrated stuff, but the Buffalo Trace version pips it to the post.

UPDATED: FEB 10, 2014 Aroma is dark chocolate, vanilla, oak, some coffee and a little spice. Pours very deep dark brown with no head whatsoever. Palate is totally smooth, with no perceivable alcohol presence. Flavor is initially that of a malty breakfast stout, soon turning to a sweet okay mid taste with vanilla, banana and chocolate. After taste is more woody with slight bourbon spice present. A superb beer, taking all the best of barrel aging and adds it to an already strong breakfast stout.
