Aroma is soapy with some caramel and fruity hops. Flavour is very soapy with gooseberry bush and herbal bitterness. Also some fruity hops and caramel. Bitter in a harsh way, hides the ABV well though.

Pours dark orange with a thick white head. Aroma of caramely malts, some wood, oak, hops and vanilla. Taste is smooth, sweet and malty with some caramel, toffee and oaky notes. Finish is smooth and sweet with some caramely maltiness. Okay, quite smooth barley wine.

Bottle shared with the Danes. Pours reddish and sherry-like, a cloudy reddish caramel color. Aroma is vinous and slightly tart: sweet malts, peach, red wine, bourbon. Taste is a little hot, with notes of caramel, lemon peel, sherry-like oxidation, hazelnut, lingering booze. Interesting sherry notes but not super into this.

How: Bottle.
Where: NK Bar, Stockholm.
Appearance: Hazy dark amber colour with a small beige head.
Aroma: Apricot, caramel, some alcohol.
Body: Full body, low carbonation.
Flavour: Sticky, fruit, alcohol.
Comment: Aroma is nice, flavour is just wrong. Had to get a few other opinions on it, but it wasn’t infected or miss-brewed. Just too much hops in a beer that shouldn’t have it.

brontebeach (169) - Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 18, 2014
From bottle. Pours murky brown. Nose rich, smooth and balanced but with an alcohol tinge although after a while in the glass this fades. Promises more of a heavy hollow through, but is actually quite delicate although the aftertaste is short lived and perhaps lacks the complexity one would wish. Good though. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

SlackerMads (1896) - DENMARK - APR 18, 2014
Bottle. Cool label. Hazy chestnut brown with a forever lasting medium sized tan head. Fruity nose, Dry, tannic, wooden, earthy. Fruity notes of lime, pear, golden raisins. Fruity barrel notes in direction of triple sec, chardonnay, muscatel. Warming alcohol. Light toasted and bready malts. Full body, oily/light sticky texture, soft carbonation, medium/heavy sweet and bitter. A different barley wine with the barrels dominating while the malt base being somewhat neutral. Really an experience, but also a bit rough and tannic.
