Bottle, 375ml. A finger-thick, tan, dense, head forms over a dark brown to black body. The aroma is lighlty alcoholic, with roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and toffee. A bit simple perhaps, but sure nice. Licorice, roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate and some alcohol in the flavor, brown sugar and dried fruits, and some woody, tannin notes. Full body, soft carbonation and a certain warmth on the palate. Lasting finish. A bit messy this one, but sure nice. 150814

Couldn’t get much of the liquorice root but the different barrels impart a great complex boozy, vanilla sweetness. Thin brown head that laces the glass, with an almost black body that has a brilliant feel in the mouth, sweet but not cloying. Very nice

Tap (Mikkeller and Friends); pours nearly pitch black with a khaki head; aroma is roasted malt with chocolate, licorice, molasses, and hint of coffee and alcohol; taste is sweet with chocolate, roasted malt, molasses, and licorice; finish is bitter with some alcohol warming; very good beer

Bottle from bestofbeers.dk. It pours opaque thick black withs dense mocha colored head. Spicy roasted aroma. Black malts, licorice, coffee, oak and light vanilla. Thick smooth mouthfeel. Very solid roasted flavor with oak, ripe fruit, vinous, licorice flavor notes and it ends up bitter roasted and oaky. Complex and a very solid entry.

Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. This opaque black beer pours with a dark thin tan head. It has a very rich sherry and chocolate flavour, black cherry, oak and vanilla notes followed by spicy, warming tart blackcurrant and a smooth Bourbon finish. Very Nice!

Pitch black, with short lived dark brown head. Bourbon, roast, chocolate, treacle... quite alcoholic, very sweet, and surprisingly thin in the mouth, presumably down to the addition of Liquid Mistress... quite heavy carbonation. Really nice, but not the thick gloopy impy stout I tend to prefer.
