Cask at the Birmingham Beer Bash 2014. Poured a deep mahogany with a round off white head. The aroma is rich roasted malt molasses. The flavour is strong bitter with a rich boozy alcohol roasted malt red berry fruit palate. Full bodied with soft carbonation.

Keg at the Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2014, yellow session. 02/05/2014. Viscous black/ caramel coloured pour with black tan coloured head. Aroma is big bourbon, oak, hot alcohol, booze. Flavour is dark choc, rich, bourbon, oak and vanilla, wood, warming alcohol. Palate is sticky sweet, moderate carbonation. Solid. A bit too much booze for me.

McNeillR (1121) - SCOTLAND - JUL 18, 2014
Opaque thick black, rich and viscous mocha fading head. Crunchy sweet, bullish Bourbon wood and soft soft liquorice mintiness. Initial taste is rich but clean sweetness. Clean leather, glugs of sweeping dark chocolate, cane sugar and rum burn, with an overarching chewy marshmallow sweetness. Lush mouthfeel, more evaporating fuely oil towards the end than any booze burn or oiliness. Finishes tremendously drinkable. Sandy liquer finish, bright but clean. Soft coffee bitterness roasts through but on the linger steely winey edge.

Bottle. Black with a medium sized dark brown creamy head. Vanilla, bourbon, molasses, liquorice, light alcohol heat, light ash, roasted malt, wood. Full body, velvety texture, soft carbonation, medium/heavy sweet and bitter. Big and flavourful without being overly sweet and sticky. Light warming finish with roasted malt. Comes together very well.

Habanero (2482) - Tranbjerg, DENMARK - JUL 15, 2014
Bottled. Pours pitch black with a small, lacing tan head. Aroma of toasted malts, chocolate, vanilla notes and caramel. Sweet flavor that ends up bore dry with a hint of bitterness and alcohol. Medium to full bodied, oily texture and soft carb. A very nice and smooth Impy.

375 ml bottle. Purple wax. Pours a pitch black colour with a beige head. Aroma is very bold with licorice, dark chocolate, vanilla, sweetness and brandy. Rich flavour of roasted malts, bourbon, vanilla, cream crackers, licorice drops, plums, dark chocolate, big wooden flavours and spiciness. Bitter espresso notes appear after a while. Full bodied and a thick creamy mouthfeel. Wow, so much going on here that I almost got lost. Elegant and big without being overly sweet. Excellent balance. Not an easy blend to make in this category of high expectations, but this is just spot on.
