COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask & Bottle conditioned and keg unpasteurised; Regular
A 4.5% pale ale with spicy, grassy aromas and a taste of grapefruit and apricot. Undercurrent is part pale, part oats and part caramel barley. Her swirls of bold, bready and nutty malt whirl into a concoction of spicy, citrus, floral hops. Mystery lurks in those cascade and palisade hops. Her silky, creamy body will pull you under.

Body and finish (apricot/caramel/mild nuttiness) serve up flavour than (grassy/grapefruit zest/faint orange marmalade faint lychee) nose suggests. A mustier, dustier pale compared to same brewery’s Half Mast (tried alongside it). Overall, a smooth British type - v much an English-style pale ale (approaching a creamy, English bitter on finish).

Pint on cask at Drafthouse Hammersmith.. Pours clear gold, thin head, moderate carbonation. Refreshing and bitter. I don’t get much fruit or oatmeal. It’s more a bitter than an apa for me, which is not a criticism. I’d happily down a few of these as a session.

Caña en el kraken 11..03..2016. (r278).

330ml bottle from Beer Cartel, Sydney. Poured a clear Amber with a small, bubbly and fading white head. Aromas of berries, tangerine, pithy citrus and grassy hops. Similar to taste but with a nutty malt presence. A little grapefruit pith to end. Light to medium body with medium carbonation and a moderate length and intensity finish.

330ml Bottle from Coppers, Gosforth, £2.49. Hazy Golden amber with a huge, frothy, off-white head driven by lively carbonation. Excellent head retention for a bottled beer. The aroma is pleasant and fruity, with sweet mango and sharper citric tones. Sweet fruity flavours front up the taste but there is a decent, crisp bitterness to a long finish that keeps it refreshing. Later, some biscuit malts and cereal type flavours from the oatmeal come into play more, complementing the hoppy flavours nicely. Some lightly spicy/herbal and soft toffee flavours make themselves known too. On the whole it’s a very good beer, but a very busy one too, that just lacks that easy drinkability that would have earned it a top, top rating.

330ml bottle. Cloudy orange color. Small size, white head, stays. Fruity, citrus, bit yeasty, grainy in aroma. Fruity, faint caramel, citric peel in taste. Citric fruits in aftertaste. Soft carbonation. Drinkable brew.
