Part one of our Arch Nemesis Series of specialty beer releases, Midnight is a bold yet quenching Imperial Black India Pale Ale also serves to celebrate our 4 year anniversary beer. This dark and devouring ale is made with a touch of darkly roasted malt to give it the distinctive ebony color. The rich malt base is then bombarded bountiful amounts of Chinook and Cascade hops lending bitterness along with citrus flavor and aroma. Although tempting, be patient and let this ale warm in the glass a little to really let the layers of flavor unfold.

Pretty standard for the black IPA category. No issues here. Not my favorite style, but this is what I would want if I needed a black ipa. Smells roasty and tastes of darker malt with a nice hop backbone. Good for the style.

16oz sticker-wrapped can from Lukas Liquors in Missouri, purchased during my stay for RBSG. Slightly high fill. Pitch black color. Pours with a nice big light brown head, with good retention. Leaves good, thicker lace. Awesome big dark chocolate and coffee malt aroma. Nice earthy, mildly piney hop. Bigger body, good stout-like chewiness to the texture. Light dry finish. Very smooth, crisp, lighter carbonation. Lightly dry finish. Moderate to bigger bitter taste. Lighter sweet. Light spicy. Tasty, enjoyable, satisfying double black IPA. Great to enjoy with my sandwich. I’m glad I picked up a can of this.. Better than expected

Pour is a black with a large tan head. Aroma is a nice mix of roasted malt and piney hops. Flavor is about the same. Nice roasted malt to start then comes and equally nice hop resin. Finish has almost no roasted malt but a clean dry malt and hop like a regular IPA. This is a decent little beer and a black IPA that relies more on what the hops are doing rather than the malt.

Sample from a 16 oz. can at Fields Foods. Pours a very dark brown, pretty much opaque, with a finger of beige head. Nice balance of dark and roasty and chocolate malts along with some earthy, faintly citrusy hops. Medium-bodied, with a roasty, bitter mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Nice black IPA.
