COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This rich and robust beer is the result of aging our Imperial Whale Ale: Killer Whale in bourbon barrels for 4 months, adding signature oak-aged characteristics, nuances of vanilla, slight char, and bourbon aroma. Pairs nicely with smoked meats and stone fruit desserts. Ready to drink now or suitable for aging in the bottle for several years.

Bottle shared by b3shine. Poured dark brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy earthy & toasted malt and small bourbon wood aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy bourbon sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. My expectations were met.

22 oz. bottle via local STL trade. Pours a cloudy orange color with a medium off-white head. Notes of bourbon, dried apricots, caramel, oak, spice, and an oaky, fruity funk that could have fooled me into thinking there was some brett in here. Infection, perhaps? Medium-bodied, with medium carbonation and a funky, sweet mouthfeel. Though I normally like barrel-aged beers more, this wasn’t bad. But I have no idea what it was supposed to be.

Bottle shared by b3shine. Mostly hazy darker orange color. Thin off-white head, little lace. Bigger body. Soft lighter carbonation. Lightly dry finish. Lightly fruity aroma, some citrus, tropical fruit, little wood and spice. Not getting any vanilla. Zesty taste. Light bite to it. Lightly tart taste. Probably the most unusual bourbon barrel treated beer I’ve ever had. I dig that lightly spicy, zesty finish. Very grapefruit. Very light caramel malt.

Bomber. Pours a mostly clear dark copper color with a large white head. A big sweet malty nose. A big bourbon flavor, vanilla, light caramel, toast, some berries. The base struggles with the treatment a bit. Dry. More like a dry BW,

22 oz. bottle first shared by b3shine (also phaleslu). Pours a hazy amber orange color with a thin off white film. The aroma and flavor had sweet caramel, bourbon, vanilla, oak, tart citrus and a strange funky note. This did come off as boozy at times It was a bit strange to me.

Bomber to snifter (shared by me with the group; thanks Keir). Looks good; a semi-transparent brownish-orange with off-white lacing. Smells sweet, boozy, and mildly funky... Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Alright, but tastes like it’s souring.

Sampled at an esbls tasting. Almost clear kind of tea colored. No head. I smell butter scotch. Ut oh. Flavor, too. Some odd malts. Alcohol intrudes. I am not a fan. Diacetyl and that much alcohol do not mix well.

Pours dark gold / copper that is a touch cloudy and has a very small off-white head. The aroma has lots of oak, vanilla, bourbon, rich malt, caramel, some toasty malt and a bit of warming alcohol. Full rich body with a touch of husk and fairly light sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with alcohol warmth, vanilla, fruitiness, bourbon, syrup, caramel and phenolic spice. The finish has a bit of alcohol burn, raw graininess, more phenolic spice and nectar fruits. Pretty decent beer and different slant to a bourbon barrel aged beer.

This numbered bottle was sent to me courtesy of Strykzone. It poured amber with a good sized and long lasting off-white head and moderate lacing rings. The nose is strong, with bourbon leading, but then ripe fruit, and rich caramel malts come along. The body is medium plus, with a decent mouthfeel with some alcohol showing. The flavor is very rich. I note some reports of diacetyl in earlier ratings but that may have faded with age, because I detected none. The big malts blend well with the bourbon barrel aging flavors, and with the dark ripe fruit and vanilla it finishes nicely. This is a well executed bourbon barrel aging and I enjoyed this bomber of beer to the very last drop.

22 oz bomber shared by beastiefan2k. The pour is a mostly clear golden copper with not too much of a head. The aroma is Bourbon, along with a bit of malt honey and general yeast spice. The taste is a sharp floral spice right away, then some of the honey sweetness, and a fair shot of the bourbon in the back. The palate is medium bodied with soft natural carbonation, and warming alcohol in the finish. Overall, a bit too sweet and boozy for my palate. I love the project they are doing, though. Thanks for sharing this Eugene.
