Brewed with almost two (2) pounds of hops per barrel and left unfiltered, the Six Row Double IPA showcases the citrusy and piney characteristics of the Columbus, Centennial, and Chinook hops.

This beer presents itself as a DIPA, but oddly enough, itís the caramel malts that hit the nose when I sniff from the glass. Somewhat surprising and without a date on the bottle itís tough for me to figure out if thatís what the brewer intended or something that may have went wrong at the liquor store. Thereís also a faint mustiness as well. Color is a nice deep reddish amber, with tight unified bubbles leaving a frothy and creamy head. It really looks gorgeous in my tulip glass. The initial taste yields substantial bitterness, with an appropriate amount of alcohol present in the finish. The beer warms as it goes down, perhaps not a surprise given the ABV levels. While I can pick out the alcohol character it isnít the unpleasant kind, but works within the framework of the beer. Sadly I donít get a lot of hop character out of this beer, which is disappointing as Iíve only had it for a couple of weeks and itís just not there. Mouthfeel is pretty heavy and bordering on syrupy, and despite the pretty head carbonation just isnít there, most likely due to the higher ABV. Unfortunately, without the hops to carry things forward the beer quickly turns into a malt-caramel-alcohol bomb, with heavy malt up front and alcohol in the after finish. Somewhat disappointing, though Iíd like to try a sample fresh from the brewery and see if it still has the same kind of issues.

Tap at Six Row. Clear orange pour with a frothy white head. Sharp pine aroma and taste. Touch of tropical fruit as well. Solid.

Draft. A very piney nose with light citrus. Taste is rather sweet. Overall ok but not a particular stand out.

Only 54 ratings? People need to discover 6 row! This one smells strongly of pine, some honey and grapefruit. Very pleasant aroma. Dark orange in color, hazy, one can tell itís unfiltered. Solid white head that lingers and laces well. The grapefruit comes through again in the taste, followed again by honey and floral hops. Aftertaste is bitter but not overwhelming. Refreshing. I would drink this again. Btw, anyone who is in the St. Louis area should check out 6 rowís tap room on Forest Park Ave. Itís a great, cheap place to drink with good food. No, I do not work for 6 Row.

1/6/2014. On tap. Hazy amber color with a white head. Aromas are citrus, caramel, pine, resins and tropical fruit. Malty flavors with good hop balance and a bitter finish.

22 oz. bottle from phaleslu shared with the group (April 2012). Pours a clear dark golden/amber color with a small off white head. The aroma has herbal hops, pine resin, citrus, toasted caramel malt. The flavor has pine resin, herbal hops, citrus, caramel and pale malts. Unfortunately this has more bittering hops and not enough flavoring hops. Medium bodied. Not bad, just wish the flavor was up to the aroma.

Lots of citrus and pine. Not as big as some double ipa's but still taste some alcohol on the finish. Nice beer.

On tap at Schneithorst's Bier Garten in St. Louis. Dark gold pour with a white head. Tones of citrus and pine. Not as fill bodied as many Double IPAs, but high alcohol content is evident in aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
