Sweet without much body. Quite burnt, but nut in a good way. Pretty boring. Feels empty.

Big bottle to a taster, at DLD 2013. Dark brown color. Good thin khaki head. Bits of lace. Toasty malty spicy hop. Light dark fruit. Light herbal hop. Medium body, but a bit on the bigger side... tastes a bit bigger than 5%. Lighter smooth carbonation. Lightly tart, lightly acidic, but not in a way that ruins it. Solid.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
This beer has an enormous tan head combined with a dark brown color and large sediment at the bottom of the glass, and the aroma hints towards smoked malts. The taste is slightly sweet, a touch bitter, and a touch umami, which leaves your mouth wanting more, especially because the palate is lacking and inappropriate (for a porter) due to its average carbonation, light body, thin texture, and a long finish.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the brewpub. Comes brown with a small tan head. Aroma of roast, chocolate, and coffee. Taste is roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, and molasses. One of my favorites at this brewpub. Enjoyable.

February 12, 2013 - on tap at brewpub. Dark brown pour with some head. Roasted malt, chocolate and some hops in aroma and taste. Little bit of carbonation, but nice body for a porter.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
22oz bottle from Binny’s Lincoln Park. Pours a very deep brown, mostly black colored body with a thin, frothy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is grainy and nutty roasts with some chocolate and caramel, earth, and touches of cocoa nibs. Flavor is similar. Earthy and grainy with a good amount of nutty roasts and a lightly sweetened caramel and chocolate malt backing. Finishes dry, earthy, roasty, and moderately bitter with some cocoa nibs, caramel, and nuts. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium-thin body and a light carbonation. Overall, a decent porter. Earthy, roasty, and somewhat sweet with a bit of a thin body that could use a touch more carbonation. Eh...

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bomber bottle and served in Pipeworks snifter: Pours a deep brown with a small head and minimal lace. Quite traditional porter nose of roast, nuts, hint of char and chocolate with grassy hops vapours. The taste is a short display of roasted breads, milk chocolate, walnuts, burnt wood, herbal and aromatic hops and a touch of coffee. A tad weak and fading palate. The mouth feel seems a bit watery and lower carbonated. Well it is a session-able and quaff-able porter, nothing less or nothing more.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JUN 17, 2013 11/2/2012: Tasted on tap at the brewpub in a standard shaker glass. It poured an opaque, very dark reddish brown color with thick creamy beige foam, lasting with lace. True-to-style but subdued porter aromas: husky grains, bready, toasty, slight roasty, balanced by distinctly English earthy and citrusy hops and faintly fruity English ale yeast esters. Flavors the same, nice bitterweet balance, some nice charred grain bitterness as well. Medium body, well-rounded and "chewy" mouthfeel, somewhat toasty and tart aftertaste which finished with a nice crisp snap. Well crafted.
6/15/2013: Tasted again at the St. Louis Brewers Guild Heritage Fest 2013 in a sampler glass. It poured an opaque dark brown color with off-white foam, lasting with lace. Toasty, roasty, grainy, bready, fruity, minty. Crisp mouthfeel, tart and refreshing. Light-medium body, strong carbonation, bittersweet aftertaste which eventually finished dry.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Pours stout dark with a thick tan head (lots of carbonation on this one). Aroma is like sweetened coffee, a bit of chocolate and cream. Taste is a bit thing, but carries the same light sweetened coffee flavor with a bit of milkiness and roasted nuts. A very good session porter. Not overly indulgent.
