4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 oz can. Deep brown with lasting yellow-tan head. Nose is cola and smooth roasted malt with soft notes of espresso and cocoa nibs. Flavor is velvety roasted malt with nice pop of bitter cocoa powder, Bakers chocolate, and fresh roast coffee. Nice coating mouthfeel with gritty, half melted dark/unsweetened chocolate coating the tongue in the finish. Really enjoyable, layered bitterness.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
UPDATED: APR 9, 2013 300th New York rating! 12 ounce can from Wine Warehouse Charlottesville. Pours a clear dark red-brown color with a large frothy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of cocoa, coffee and a roasty, almost ashy note. The taste is intense coffee, bitter chocolate, roast. Pretty boozy. Medium bodied. Toned back a bit, this could be good, but as of now it’s a bit of a mess.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
12oz can shared. Poured medium brown color color. The aroma is cocoa beans and coffee plus your roaste small. The flavor is different I get the roasted malt and the cocoa and coffee hints plus there is a unique sweetness to it. I don’t get the Romano bean at all. This is medium bodied porter. Mild alcohol burn and some bitterness on the back end.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Can. Pours brown with a persistent cream head with thick lacing. Vanilla and astringent cherry nose. No real coffee on the nose,no roast. Taste is very bitter but smooth chocolate. Long tasting bitter palate. Bit of booze on the end at the same time that the coffee starts to shine through, but they clash. Pretty disappointing.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap at Churchkey. Pours a deep, reddish ruby. Medium tan foam. Big, webby lacing. Mega sharp gritty work coffee nose...moves to some sour cherry. Taste is spicy, hazelnut, vanilla, mega gritty work coffee with coffee filter. Palate is a tad gritty and papery, but thankfully not watery or astringent. Not my style of beer, could be confused with an actual cup of coffee and I’m not a coffee drinker. Although I love good stouts that have coffee flavors and complexity. Making a cup of coffee into a beer is not the way to achieve that go.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz. can from Total Wine in Virginia Beach, VA. Dark brown cola-like pour. Rich roasted coffee dominates the nose with faint floral hops in the background. Dark cacao beans and espresso are abundant in the flavor. Slight heat from the alcohol is detected after a few sips. Really nicely done.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
12oz can, purchased at Downer Wine & Spirits. Pours a dark brown color with a tan head and a little bit of lacing. Aroma is chocolately, roasty, coffee. Medium to heavy on the palate with soft, creamy carbonation. Flavor is sweet, milk chocolate, bitter coffee, burnt toast, some grassy hops, with a bittersweet chocolate finish. This beer is good, but I feel like it is just a touch short in a few areas. A little heavier on the palate, a little more complexity in the flavor, and this would be world class.
