I picked up a growler of this from Whole Foods on East Houston today and it had a very foamy crisis in the store as they dispensed it into the container, which the clerk wrapped in a cold bag for me. When I was able to pour the dark gold ale into the right glass, it reminded me of the Apollo Wheat with a cream scent compounded with hops. The strong wheat taste disappeared after a moment as the light malts were chased away by dry bitterness. I liked how the taste evolved as the ale sat for a few moments. It also displayed the millions of little bubbles from the bottom of the glass, which was something I normally associated with champagne.

Growler from Bowery Whole Foods - really fizzy, cloudy gold beer - in typical sixpoint fashion, they have hopped the hell out of this one - herbal, earthy hops fill the nose and blast the tongue - very light wheat and biscuity malt character hide underneath there, as well as a little bit of tangy citrus that becomes like grapefruit rind near the finish, but other wise this is a hop monster of a wheat ale - if you like that sort of thing, get your ass a growler of this.

Pours hazy, dark gold, with a three inch head of dense white. A slow retreat revealed a plethora of clingy lacework, and a partial skim coat for coverage. Aromatics lead off with tart citrus, light malt, and fresh grain. Lemon oils, orange zest, biscuity malt, and grapefruit pith. Lightly tart and quite fruity. Medium bodied with a snappy, crisp mouthfeel. Grapefruit, lemon zest, and orange rind start the pallet. Light, fresh malt steps forward along with some pine resin and more lemony tartness. Finishes with a lingering, drying bitterness, tart wheat, and more grapefruit pith. Super quenching and more tart than most. The hopping is also a notch up. The mouthfeel is fullish for the style, and drinkability is high. Good stuff. More props go out RblWthACoz for another freshie!

Growler from Bowery Whole Foods: Very cloudy deep copper pour topped by a creamy, light tan head. Fruity nose, mild tropical notes of peachy fruitiness and mildly sweet citrus resins. There is some grainy malt notes and just a touch of wheat-like sharpness. The texture is nice and smooth, with a well hopped flavor. (like usual from Shane at Sixpoint) Has some peach notes as well as crystal malt notes (mildly nutty) Some breadiness from the malt as well, making it hearty and fruity simultaneously. A satisfying and easy drinking Wheat Ale (if you like hops).

Growler acquired in trade with puzzl (thanks!). Poured a medium and cloudy/muddy orangish color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of citrus and wheaty. Tastes of citrus, wheat, and also had a fruitiness to it.

Growler filled at Bellport Beer. Refill price was $8.99, which I thought was excellent. Pours a cloudy rust color with a moderate linen white head that disappeared before a quarter of the glass was finished and left very little lace. Much darker than what I would expect from a wheat beer. The aroma was mostly bitter hops and reminded very much of the white pith of a grapefruit. Some notes of wheat in the aroma as well. The flavor starts out with a strong wheat flavor and there is a dry, bitter finish, again very similar to the pith of a grapefruit. Glad I tried it, but probably not something I would go back to.
