Commercial Description:
Sixpoint Bengali Tiger is reminiscent of the century-old English IPA. In my perspective, many current IPAs suffer from lacking substance; unbalanced by a hoppy assertiveness that is not substantiated by a strong foundation of rich malt flavors. Our interpretation uses the highest-quality, floor-malted base malt, which lends a full-bodied and rich caramel flavor. We mash at high temperatures and add generous amounts of specialty malts to further emphasize a strong foundation of malt as leverage for our generous additions of hops… Which are indeed generous. We use a total of three different hop strains, and add a total of six different additions throughout the process. The Bengali Tiger has a hoppy snap upfront, but strides at a steady pace, and finishes balanced. The signature characteristic of the Tiger is the aroma… we use massive quantities of whole East Kent Goldings hops to dry hop in our conditioning tanks. The result? The essential oils from the hops are an enticing treat before every sip. Notice the lacing of stripes around the pint glass as you finish your glass; it’s the mark of the Tiger.

IT HAS A NICE MODERATELY POWERFUL GRAPEFRUIT HOP TASTE THAT STAYS WITH YOU. THE MALT CHARACTER IS PRONOUNCED BUT ALL IN ALL TASTES ONE DIMENSIONAL. THE MALT TASTE IS GOOD BUT THERE IS A HINT OF STRAW AS WELL. THE PALATE,CARBONATION AND MOUTHFEEL ARE ADEQUATE ALL IN ALL A RESPECTFUL TWO DIMENSIONAL MODERATELY POWER IPA. ON TAP AT THE BLIND TIGER NYC(TODAY) the alcohol is completely hidden WHICH OF COURSE MEANS EXTRA POINTS.

Draft at Blind Tiger - Deeply hazed amber, white creamy head. Hopped up nose of piney caramel, florals, black tea, and touches of citrus. Very well balanced with tea notes, florals, and light pine that lay on a nice lightly sweetened caramel malt backbone. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry bitter finish. Sessionable in my book...

On tap at the Blind Tiger in NYC. Poured the usual, amber type color, decent but not impressive head, ok lacing. The aroma was light floral and some fruity notes, not quite a citrus bomb. The flavor was fairly balanced for an IPA, melons, fruits, slight citrus, nice touch of bittering hops without a ton of flavor. Short of tea-baggish, but not far off. The mouthfeel was fairly hearty, but only moderate when all was said and done. A nice brew, nothing to write home about.

This beer pours a nice firm head at a deep amber color. It has a nice balance between hops and malt. The beer shows a balanced finishg with gives that nice hoppy b itterness that we love in an IPA.

I had this on cask at the Ginger Man. A very suitable cask beer, and the turnover is good here so it is fresh. A head with foam, opaque yellow amber body. Significant lace in the glass. Leafy hop aroma, and the taste is leafy bitter and drying. Definite hop fix here.

Tap at Barcade. Very cloudy orange beer with a thick creamy head. Fresh hop aroma. Lots of spice and pine with an undercurrant of grapefruit. Flavour is also very hoppy with loads of pine and spiciness. Light orange citrus and a very crisp, hoppy, pithy bitter finish. Lean malts with just a hint of breadiness and caramel. Very tasty IPA.

Draft. Reddish amber color with a creamy head. Nice pine and resin aroma, full floral bouquet, nice hops, fruity. Flavor is hugely citrus and fruit. Good hops in the flavor, but not as much pine. Well crafted, solid, and balanced.
