Sixpoint Bengali Tiger is reminiscent of the century-old English IPA. In my perspective, many current IPAs suffer from lacking substance; unbalanced by a hoppy assertiveness that is not substantiated by a strong foundation of rich malt flavors. Our interpretation uses the highest-quality, floor-malted base malt, which lends a full-bodied and rich caramel flavor. We mash at high temperatures and add generous amounts of specialty malts to further emphasize a strong foundation of malt as leverage for our generous additions of hops… Which are indeed generous. We use a total of three different hop strains, and add a total of six different additions throughout the process. The Bengali Tiger has a hoppy snap upfront, but strides at a steady pace, and finishes balanced. The signature characteristic of the Tiger is the aroma… we use massive quantities of whole East Kent Goldings hops to dry hop in our conditioning tanks. The result? The essential oils from the hops are an enticing treat before every sip. Notice the lacing of stripes around the pint glass as you finish your glass; it’s the mark of the Tiger.

355ml can at the Sanderling JDW Glasgow Airport. Cost £3.99 so I won’t be having beer a the airport again. Hazy orang amber, big head. Resin orange hop aroma. Grapefruit hop flavour. Bitter orange grapefruit aftertaste. A bit flat. I hope these beers are a success with JDW. I would like to try more like this.

Take 2 - Can from Linen Hall [120214] - Getting more orangey zest and resinous hops, sweet fruity malts, seems a bit less bitter on the finish. I’m liking this more. Up to 3.6

Can from Linen Hall, Enniskillen [120214] 7/4/7/3/14
Ornage, slight haze, big frothy white head, good lacing
Aroma - Orange zest, grapefruit zest, resinous hops, sweet caramel malts, caramelized orange
Taste as aroma, orange zest, grapefruit, hop resins, caramelized orange malty backbone, hoppy malty IPA
Palate - Soft carb, medium body, smooth texture, quite oily. Bitter hops and sweet orangey malts. Finish is dry, resinous hops, bitter zest, some caramel, considerably bitter dry linger
Overall - Quite a malty US IPA , but plenty of hops as this is fresh....decent enough but I expected it to be better considering all the hype.

Can at JDW Hounslow, orange-amber with a haze and lasting fine off-white head, and aromas of mango, pine and orange. Initial malty sweetness is rapidly dried away by a firm bitter bite with more citrus. There’s some toffee, resin and honey underneath, trying to poke through the bitterness. Rather nice, it needs a little time to expand out of the tin, though it is still a little more muted than the description above would suggest.

Can @The foot of the walk, Leith. pours golden/amber with a thin white head which goes quite quick. Citrus on the nose with a dollop of floral notes as well. While bitter it was not over powering and it was all the better for it.

Can at Square Peg, Birmingham. Excellent IPA. Classically West Coast - or so I thought, until I read the description. Reminded me of SN Torpedo I think. Great balance of hops and sweetness. Slight resin. Feel real good on me tongue.

Can from The White Lady JDW. Pours amber. Head fades fast. Lots of hop aroma - oranges & grapefruit. Quite bitter with a resin texture. This is a decent IPA. Nice that it’s available in the Spoons!
