Sixpoint Bengali Tiger is reminiscent of the century-old English IPA. In my perspective, many current IPAs suffer from lacking substance; unbalanced by a hoppy assertiveness that is not substantiated by a strong foundation of rich malt flavors. Our interpretation uses the highest-quality, floor-malted base malt, which lends a full-bodied and rich caramel flavor. We mash at high temperatures and add generous amounts of specialty malts to further emphasize a strong foundation of malt as leverage for our generous additions of hops… Which are indeed generous. We use a total of three different hop strains, and add a total of six different additions throughout the process. The Bengali Tiger has a hoppy snap upfront, but strides at a steady pace, and finishes balanced. The signature characteristic of the Tiger is the aroma… we use massive quantities of whole East Kent Goldings hops to dry hop in our conditioning tanks. The result? The essential oils from the hops are an enticing treat before every sip. Notice the lacing of stripes around the pint glass as you finish your glass; it’s the mark of the Tiger.

Pours a very nice amber color with white head. Lots of citrus and pine on the nose with a little floral note sneaking in; follows onto the palate. More hop resin on the palate as well. Finishes with a nice hop bite, medium bodied.

Pours a very nice amber color with white head. Citrus, flowers, and grapefruit on the nose; all follow onto the palate. Finishes nice and clean. It does leave some nice lacing.

Growler from Ale Yeah. Big sticky sweet body and piney citrus aromas and flavors. Aggressive hop profile but a little more on the caramel side of the equation for an IPA.

Takeaway can bought at Wetherspoons. Cloudy amber with a very thin head. Has plenty of fruit in its nose and flavour. A tad sour in the palate but remains very tasty.

Can in the Llandudno Spoon’s on 11th June 2014: no new cask beers for me, so defaulted to the first of the three cans Sixpoint have being pushed by Wetherspoons. Slight haze to my pale amber pour, the head tried to hang around, but failed after less than a minute. The nose was both yeast and hop laden with malts just about getting a look in. Taste wise it’s the hops that lead the way with a yeastiness within the flavourings. Pleasant and not as bitter as I expected.

A few 335ml cans at the Tilley Stone Gateshead. Served in a cool little tulip glass. Big piney citrus aroma. Hazy amber with a clinging off white head. Big juicy grapefruit flavour, woody conifer notes, hops to the fore. Slightly oily texture, long bitter finish. Rather delicious.

500ml can from Julio’s.
Appearance : Clear pale amber with medium foamy white head.
Aroma : Citrusy and piny hops. Slightly resinous with light oily notes. Fairly floral as well with some malt. Light caramel notes.
Taste : Great malty backbone with resinous and floral hops. Citusy with passion fruit notes. Finish fairly resinous with piny and floral notes. Fairly bitter with persistent resinous notes and lightly caramelized malt.
Palate : Lively but soft carbonation. Pillowy palate, quite quaffable.
Overall : Really nice beer. Great balance between malt and hops. Nice balance between resinous/piny profile and floral/citrusy notes. Nicely drinkable, just enough resinous on palate with nice malt. Caramel is also pretty well balanced, just enough to give depth to the malt and a bit more body while still staying in the background. Good stuff.

Pours bright orange, faintly hazy with whitish head. Smell is fruity orange, clean tropical and citrus. Taste is slightly thin with dry citrusy orange rind hops. Not syrupy, and it feels refreshing with a full body and crisp mouthfeel. I like it’s dryness quite a bit. Very nice ipa
