Sixpoint Bengali Tiger is reminiscent of the century-old English IPA. In my perspective, many current IPAs suffer from lacking substance; unbalanced by a hoppy assertiveness that is not substantiated by a strong foundation of rich malt flavors. Our interpretation uses the highest-quality, floor-malted base malt, which lends a full-bodied and rich caramel flavor. We mash at high temperatures and add generous amounts of specialty malts to further emphasize a strong foundation of malt as leverage for our generous additions of hops… Which are indeed generous. We use a total of three different hop strains, and add a total of six different additions throughout the process. The Bengali Tiger has a hoppy snap upfront, but strides at a steady pace, and finishes balanced. The signature characteristic of the Tiger is the aroma… we use massive quantities of whole East Kent Goldings hops to dry hop in our conditioning tanks. The result? The essential oils from the hops are an enticing treat before every sip. Notice the lacing of stripes around the pint glass as you finish your glass; it’s the mark of the Tiger.

Bold pine floral aroma. Clear bronze body topped with a foamy inch thick head to start. A pronounced bitter bite to starts. Has a mild sweetness in the background. Clean malt taste with a dry crisp finish. Well rounded and balanced. Has just been added to my go-to list of IPA’s.

UPDATED: MAY 21, 2015 Poured from can, slightly hazy pale amber with full head. Wonderul aroma of fruit, citrus and pine over caramel. Taste is bitter with a medium body, notes of citrus, grass, resin and some cereals leading to long bitter finish. A little on the hoppy side and I love it!

Tap: Slightly amber & orange colored with mild clarity. Soapy white head leaves some spotty lacing behind. Aroma is subdued; grassy hops, bitter citrus, baked biscuits, pine, florals, tangerine rind, a bit of herbal leafiness. Flavor is staunchly bitter; heavy pine tree, herbal tea, musty earth, ashy leaves, & grass. Some grapefruit pith, orange zest, & lemon rind in the back-end, finishing with a touch of biscuit malt. Lingering with bitterness & a small twinge of soapiness. Dry-ish body, almost resinous. Decent.

Nice hop aroma, and strong golden color. Hop forward flavor with a good aftertaste. Lower alcohol percentage than some others, but very drinkable

A great IPA, great colour for an IPA and nice fruity aroma. Hop bitterness hits you upfront but nice malty flavour soon balances beer with quite a dry finish

355ml can from Whole Foods - Tribeca, New York. BB19MAR2016. Thanks Jesse!

Dark orange colour with a big white head. Caramel, hops, fruits. More malty side IPA, not so refreshing but decent still.

Deep amber with quickly fading head that leaves lasting lacing. Floral hops and biscuit malts on nose. Gentle pine and orange notes balance with caramel malts. Long clean finish that slowly turns from sweet to bitter. It doesn’t stand out for any one characteristic, but is a perfectly balanced english IPA with no weaknesses.

Can. Murky, tarnished copper. One finger of orange-white foam bubbles away quickly. Nose: orange peel, wet grass, lavender, honey, caramelized sugars. Good malt sweetness matched with floral hop bitterness in the flavor. Apricot, biscuits, orange juice. The seesaw is just a bit lower on the bitter side. Very high carbonation -- almost too high. Medium-light body. Light, watery. Works with the beer, though.

355 ml slimline can, as Sixpoint Bengali, at the Prince of Wales (JDW), Cardiff. ABV was 6.5%. Orange colour, moderate white head. Distinct aroma of American hops, notes of orange marmalade and pine. Hoppy flavour too, some sweetness but not too much, notes of orange peel and pine / resin.
