Sixpoint Bengali Tiger is reminiscent of the century-old English IPA. In my perspective, many current IPAs suffer from lacking substance; unbalanced by a hoppy assertiveness that is not substantiated by a strong foundation of rich malt flavors. Our interpretation uses the highest-quality, floor-malted base malt, which lends a full-bodied and rich caramel flavor. We mash at high temperatures and add generous amounts of specialty malts to further emphasize a strong foundation of malt as leverage for our generous additions of hops… Which are indeed generous. We use a total of three different hop strains, and add a total of six different additions throughout the process. The Bengali Tiger has a hoppy snap upfront, but strides at a steady pace, and finishes balanced. The signature characteristic of the Tiger is the aroma… we use massive quantities of whole East Kent Goldings hops to dry hop in our conditioning tanks. The result? The essential oils from the hops are an enticing treat before every sip. Notice the lacing of stripes around the pint glass as you finish your glass; it’s the mark of the Tiger.

Can. Murky, tarnished copper. One finger of orange-white foam bubbles away quickly. Nose: orange peel, wet grass, lavender, honey, caramelized sugars. Good malt sweetness matched with floral hop bitterness in the flavor. Apricot, biscuits, orange juice. The seesaw is just a bit lower on the bitter side. Very high carbonation -- almost too high. Medium-light body. Light, watery. Works with the beer, though.

355 ml slimline can, as Sixpoint Bengali, at the Prince of Wales (JDW), Cardiff. ABV was 6.5%. Orange colour, moderate white head. Distinct aroma of American hops, notes of orange marmalade and pine. Hoppy flavour too, some sweetness but not too much, notes of orange peel and pine / resin.

Can pour. Aroma is resinous hop with a bit of earthy notes. Taste is well balanced between some malt sweetness with a sharp bitterness. Overall this is a great IPA. The malts balance out the piney hops just right.

Piwo z puszki 355ml w JDW ’Globe’ Kings Lynn, podane w szklance typu tulip. Barwa pomarańczowa, piana drobno pęcherzykowa, utrzymuje się do końca, pięknie oblepia szkło. Intensywne aromaty cytrusowe i żywiczne, w smaku grejpfrut i mandarynki. Mocna goryczka dobrze zbalansowana słodowością. Wygląd, zapach i smak tego piwo świetnie się uzupełniają.

12 oz. can. BBD 17 Nov. 15. Pours a thick, gradually collapsing, ivory head, with extensive lacing, over a clear Amber (SRM 12) body.....nose is toasted malts, with light biscuit, herbal hop notes, no esters, balanced......taste Is slightly sweet with hints of toffee/caramel, light floral hints, ending with light bitterness, balanced......mouth feel, light of medium body, no alcohol, carbonation adds heavy foam. Per the breweries description this is an English IPA. There are no American hop notes in either aroma or flavor. The bitterness is relatively low and quite gentle from the lower alpha acid East Kent Goldings. The result is a soft IPA that tastes good, but is quite atypical for an American IPA. BJCP 8/3/15/5/7

Can, Hoylake Lights, JDW. Amber pour with a decent white head. Enticing hop and fruit aroma. Tidy balance of sweet malts and very good piney hop in tandem with notes of orange and peach in the flavour. An excellent canned IPA that provides a welcome oasis in many a UK beer desert. Cheap too.
