Sixpoint Bengali Tiger is reminiscent of the century-old English IPA. In my perspective, many current IPAs suffer from lacking substance; unbalanced by a hoppy assertiveness that is not substantiated by a strong foundation of rich malt flavors. Our interpretation uses the highest-quality, floor-malted base malt, which lends a full-bodied and rich caramel flavor. We mash at high temperatures and add generous amounts of specialty malts to further emphasize a strong foundation of malt as leverage for our generous additions of hops… Which are indeed generous. We use a total of three different hop strains, and add a total of six different additions throughout the process. The Bengali Tiger has a hoppy snap upfront, but strides at a steady pace, and finishes balanced. The signature characteristic of the Tiger is the aroma… we use massive quantities of whole East Kent Goldings hops to dry hop in our conditioning tanks. The result? The essential oils from the hops are an enticing treat before every sip. Notice the lacing of stripes around the pint glass as you finish your glass; it’s the mark of the Tiger.

16oz can. Pour is a gorgeous amber with a finger of frothy off-white head. Aroma is mild of pine, grapefruit and toffee. Taste is delicious with a strong bitterness up that stick around through the finish and sticks after. Light to medium bodies. Notes of caramel, orange and citrus. Pretty damn good. Canned IPA’s are becoming more popular. I like.

Pint can: $2.60 from Wine Warehouse, Charlottesville. Pours a pretty amber with two inches of off-white head. Smells of bittersweet grapefruit, mango... lovely. Tastes very hoppy, lovely grapefruit, orange, mango... wonderful and thick.

Can - Pours hazy amber with a fluffy white head. Nose is light lemony citrus, pine, lots of toffee and marmalade. Taste is real bitter, grassy, with piney hops and a tinge of metal. Sweet bread, light dough, and a long, bitter pine finish. Thin and watery in the mouth with medium carbonation.

Hazy amber/orange color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of pine hops, nice citrus, & spice; Flavor of slight sweet malt, pine hops, citrus (notably grapefruit), and spice; Finish is dry and bitter; Nicely balanced; Overall, quite spicy for an IPA - pretty decent.

Can. All the way across the desk, I can smell tangerines, pomelo, and mild herbs like marjoram. Pours a dark gold/orange. The hops bitterness is nicely balanced with a round, orangey malt. Finishes a touch astringent, with just a hint of band-aid -- for me, the finish is the weakest part of the beer. Good.

Deese. Some piney notes. A little fruity. A good amount of malt balance but a little low on the hoppiness for my taste in an IPA.

Pours clear, oily orange with a large off-white head. Smells of big floral notes with some solid citrus and sweet orange. Taste is floral, bitter oranges, and pine. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and mild mouth-carbonation, Sixpoint Bengali Tiger finishes with lingering bitterness.

Good overall beer. Citrusy hops meets a moderate-light malty flavor. Dry. High white head with an amber gold coloring. Sparkling carbonation. Lovely beer. Nice hoppy bitterness. Aroma is mild, but the flavor does come out with the bitterness.
