Rating #1000!!!!! First I have to thank everyone that helped me get here. Thanks to the great guys in the DC crew who bring top notch beers to every tasting. Thanks to the amazingly generous traders out there who helped me get my hands on my own world class beers. Thanks to all of the great beer spots in Washington DC that make DC a great place for a beer lover to live. I bought this bottle back in October 2005 from Shoreline Beverage in Huntington NY. It was the first time I ever paid $20 for a single bottle of beer. Had I known what this would taste like in 2010 I would have bought a case. I took this beer out of my cellar at halftime of the 2008 Superbowl when my team, the New England Patriots, had a slim lead. I put this beer back in my cellar an hour or so later after the Plaxico Burress touchdown. I decided that the right time to drink this would be nearly two years to the day later at the 2010 Sexual Chocolate release. I was thankful to share this with a great crew of friends who came to the release with me as well as a few other Ratebeerians present. The 22oz bottle pours a opaque, oily, viscous black with a creamy, clumpy tan head. Aroma is dark bread, grains, brown sugar, lightly toast, light coffee. The nose is extremely approachable. Flavor is really nice and easy: chocolate, nuts, grains, booze, raisins, oatmeal, sweet, cookie dough. The finish is super smooth with a lasting sweetness. Totally drinkable. Despite a hint of oxidation on the end, this has aged extremely well. It’s almost a textbook example of how good beer can come together with some age. I definitely thing this is peaking now. Kudos to Sixpoint for crafting such an excellent, approachable imperial stout.

Bottle. Aroma of sweet chocolate, molasses, roasted malt with light coffee tones, earthy/roasted cereals, a sort of evergreen outdoors-y quality (not piny hops or anything, a different, deeply earthy character that sort of blends with the molasses that I’m otherwise inept to describe). In any case, flavor very rich, richer than expected from the aroma, lovely chocolate and molasses notes, sweet but not sugary sweet, balanced sweet, and overall lots of depth and complexity. Didn’t notice any negative age impact, only what was apparently very nice maturing and conditioning. Really, really nice, much more than I was expecting.

ON tap at mugs for split thy skull. This seemed better on tap than when I had it bottled when it first came out. Pours a rich black with a nice dark brown head, and nice lacing. Aroma has that perfect blend of roasted barley, toffee, caramel, chocolate, fruity esters and a nice dose of hops in the background which lets the powerful malts shine through. Rich bold flavor full of chocolate and roasted barley, smooth caramel lingers on the tongue, and a great smooth finish accompanied by a modest amount of hops. Finishes oh so smooth and rich. This is phenomenal stuff on tap.

Bottle, woo hoo. Man this is good. Aging great. Very sticky sweet so each his own. Very heavy and thick with great lace. Molasses, caramel and sweet finish. Low carbonation but I don’t remember it being that big anyway. No bitterness so balance it a bit off but I love this.

Another rare gem shared by JW77...delicious even after 3 years. Dark brown pour with a creamy tan head. Nice chocolate notes jump out of the glass followed by molasses, dark fruits and more chocolate! Flavor is creamy and delcious. Age hasn’t hur this bad boy. Alcohol? I didn’t even detect it. Flavor has such a great chocolate flavor. Toffee, molasses, and light hints of coffee too. Man this was good.

22oz bottle batch 74 bottle 227 via trade with notalush! - Thanks Brandon! - Pours black with a beautiful fluffy tan head that stays very well and laces the sides of the glass. Nice aroma of roasted almost burnt malts, coffee, smoke, and a bit of cocoa, but also some hops. Flavor is a very unique blend of dark chocolate, coffee, black currant, and grapefruit hops. Fudgey notes on the finish and spicey hops as well. Quite a bitter but over these huge chocolate and caramel malty notes it somehow all fits together nicely. Rich decadant mouthfeel. Very unique and well crafted.. Upon reading the label and seeing that one of the ingredients is 100% NYC Tap water, I’m even more impressed that a brewer could make that water taste this good! I enjoyed this one!!

Year old bomber. Pours dark with a thick brown head. Aroma is rich chocolate cake. The hops have mellowed out and this beer has become as good as the good ones. Theres still the rich body and mouthfeel but the flavors have come together really nicely. Theres some cigar tobacco to go along with some dried fruits, so its not just a coffee/chocolate milkshake. This beer is much better now than it was a year ago. Drink it up now.

Here it is, my final rating of 2006 and provided by Clark dobble V, mucho thanks to you! : Wow, the pour is pitch patch black but still maintains a big o’ creamy tan head and excellent lace...so far so good...now about the nose: 1st whiff is black patient malt, pressed aromatic black Cavendish tobacco, hint of prune and crab apple...then I get a vapour of city+ coffee, molasses, pine tar, and regular roofing tar (how strange huh) and just a bit of starfruit.

The taste is straight forward but fully complex for the genre. Fully developed roasted malt and mocha/chocolate sweetness over a fine undertone of fleshy fruits finishing off with a balance of earthy qualities. The aftertaste displays a mineral and smoky nature which matches perfectly which the flavours developed firsthand.

Well the question is if this is worth the nearly $20 price tag? I say YES, if your a stoutie.
Maybe for anyone else.
