If this post were entirely true to its subject, it would probably stop right about here. But that wouldn’t give you much of an idea about our new seasonal beer, the Brevity Wit. Brewed with toasted coriander and citrus peel, this delectable wheat beer is ripe for slamming all summer long, as our spring seasonal, Harbinger Saison, phases out for the year. Full-bodied yet dry, it’s everything you want from a Wit. Said and done. As a traditional Belgian Wit (an old style of wheat beer), Brevity was brewed with almost 50% wheat. Taking a departure from the typical Wit, however, we’ve used raw, un-malted wheat in a blend of German and domestic barley malt, and flaked oats. This ungelatinized wheat starch makes a striking difference in flavor than had we used only malted wheat, with a nutty, bready flavor that’s much less cloyingly sweet. Upon the suggestion of our friend, Executive Chef Will Prunty of nearby Prime Meats, we’ve toasted the coriander seeds before adding them to the boil. This lends to a rounder, spicier finish, which complements the orange and lime peel that was added, too. Horizon and Citra hops balanced out the blend with another citrusy hint and bitterness

Tap. Pours hazy gold with a medium-small, fizzy white head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is heavy citrus/orange with coriander, spicy wheat malt, and light fruity esters. Flavor is malt with fruity esters, citrus, spice, and a dry finish. Light body, low warmth, and medium carbonation.

Growler from Whole Foods. The cloudy, butterscotch-colored pour has hints of storm clouds in it. The tangy, sweet aroma was a surprise for a wit. There are floral scents mixed with something funkier. Full flavored and sweet. There is lots of wheat, with a tangy edge, and it is richer than most wits. The spices are present, but hang out in the background - clove, ginger. I would get this again.

Tap at 307 Taproom. Cloudy (almost milky really) yellow pour topped by a thick frothy white head. The aroma is laden with spice and citrus. Lemon and orange along with a little bit of light wheat spiciness. Pretty decent really, if a tad pedestrian.

Tap at Paradiso Dupont. The pour is a deeper, very hazy/translucent gold. Thin, white head leaves webby lace. Fresh citrus nose with orange sorbet and hints of diacetyl. Taste is richer stone fruit, orange sorbet, decent butter/diacetyl. Overall a little heavy for style like Blue Moon but this one incorporates a ton of orange section character. Really isn’t too much different from Blue Moon with orange added. Not really refreshing though.

Draft. Pours hazy gold with a white head. Wheaty and citric aroma with some nice spicier yeasty notes. The flavor has a wheaty base, with a good dose of lemony citrus, coriander, and spicy yeast. Good stuff.

Pours deep hazy orange with white head. Aroma is citrus, doughy, yeast and indeed some nuttyness. Taste is sweet, light and crisp. The nuttyness becomes more and more prevelant as the brew warmed up. Interesting wit.
