COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
American Stout, full-bodied, roasted, and highly hopped.
Each dawn is clear. Cold air bites the throat. Thick frost on the pine bough. Leaps from the tree snapped by the diesel. On the darkest days of the year, light becomes a luxury. Just when you think you cannot penetrate the darkness... SNAP! Light pierces through the roasted pine forest.

12oz can. Pours an espresso brown color with a sturdy tan head that falls to a ring. Strong scent of roasted malts, coffee, and chocolate.Taste mimics the aromas with more java and roasted cocoa beans coming through. Mouthfeel is rich and creamy. Very smooth with moderate carbonation.

16 oz can. The pour is a dark-ish brown, but way too thin for a stout. Head was humongous, and white, unlike anything I'd expect. The lacing is surprisingly good, but that's about it. The aroma is overly citrusy with hints of roast and chocolate. The taste is almost that of a Black IPA, and not anything stout like that you could think of. The mouth feel is really thin, and overly dry like the IPA. I can't wait to finish this. Damn ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can from The Perfect Pour, Elkridge, MD. Iím tempted to say that Sixpoint does better with sessionable stouts than some of their other main products, after the enjoyable Otis and this solid brew. Thick dark chocolate pour, well frothy and nicely sticky in places. Dry-ish nose of bakerís choc and roasted malts. Mouthfeel isnít too chewy, but vigorous enough. Dry, earthy finish is pleasing, and complements the richer flavors that shape the core beer. Unpretentious and well done.

Draft @ Coalhouse Pizza in Stamford, CT. A lightly-bodied stout that is unoffensive but nothing to write home about. Notes of coffee, cola, chocolate and oat.

Can. Pours a very dark brown with a moderate tan head on it. Nose is slightly roasty with some surprising floral hoppy elements in there. Taste was slightly bitter, but nicely roasty. A very interesting stout...

16 ounce can. Pours a darker brown to black with a beige head. Aroma is grassy and roasty. Tastes fairly bitter. More hoppy than I prefer a stout to be.

THOUGHTS: Imperial stout bitterness in a lighter package. It was nearly a black IPA. Itís definitely still a stout, but if you like black IPAs, you should try it. TECHNICAL: Can. Poured a very dark brown that was nearly black in the glass with a large, tan head that mostly but slowly diminished leaving excellent lacing. The aroma had moderate roast malt and chocolate milk; moderate pine hops; tobacco; and hints of caramel. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and moderately bitter; while the finish was lightly sweet and moderate to heavily bitter with an average to long duration. There was roasted malt, coffee, chocolate milk, bitter chocolate, coffee beans, pine hops and citrus rind hops, tobacco, a little citrus fruit, grapefruit and caramel malt. The medium body was creamy with sort of soft and slightly metallic finish.

16 oz can courtesy of Doodler (thanks Scott) poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lasting tan head. Aromas of roastiness, charcoal, pine, earthiness and light grapefruit. Palate was medium bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of roasted malt, pine and light earthiness with a crisp dry bitter lingering roasty pine finish.

Pretty black but slightly reddish when held up to a bright light, with a decent head and sheets of thin but glass-coating lace. Smell is more like that of a heavier imperial stout, heavy with syrupy dark fruits, some coffee and chocolate, some molasses and brown sugar, some roasted, some burnt characteristics. The taste somewhat follows but itís not as strong tasting as it is smelling. I would say that for me the taste is more appealing, actually. Itís more balanced on taste; the aroma is kinda on the too sweet, too much dark fruit side. Drink wise itís very nice, a good stout thatís something of a meal, but isnít overpowering. I am a big fan of stouts in the 6%-ish range, and this one is pretty good. Overall I donít think itís world class, but Iíd certainly drink it again, and may have to try some of their other beers that I havenít tried yet.
