Pours brownish-black. Aroma is roasty with some hops, caramel, and dark chocolate. Starts with some sweetness from chocolate and then finishes with a tart bite from all of the hops. More chocolately IPA than a stout but not too shabby.

Reviewed 3/1/13. 16 oz can poured into a nonic pint glass.
A: Pours a very dark burgundy color. The head is a rather attractive three finger mocha shade featuring excellent texturing. The lacing this leaves behind is very impressive, as well.
S: The can didnít lie about this having a strong influence of piny hops. While a backbone of chocolate, coffee, and molasses hides underneath, the level of hoppiness is almost overpowering for the style.
T: At first, itís a bit chocolaty and sweet...and the the hops descend like a hammer. Okay, so the hop profile isnít that bold, but the main problem is that the stout base canít hold up to it. Waves of black pepper, pine, herbs, and mint wash over everything in the midtaste, before finally giving the dark malts *slight* breathing room in the finish. Not very balanced at all, but at least the acidic nature of the hop/dark malt clash is kept in check somewhat.
M: Thin and lacking in creaminess. Itís dry much in the same way an IPA is dry. So not only does this taste like a IPA (with a bit of chocolate), this also drinks like an IPA.
O: Meh. Itís rare when a hoppy stout/porter works for me, especially when it requires hard work to discover the darker characteristics of it. This one is so average it hurts - but on the positive side, the can is really damn nice looking.

can, from Van Loans Port Ewen NY. good aroma, sweet, roasty, chocolate, pine. Dark orangy brown color, good head and lace. Bitter sweet flavor. full body, oily creamy mouthfeel, average carbonation, bitter finish. Pretty good, not grabbing my full attention, flavor is best part. linguring bitterness. Pretty good, guess I can cut it some slack as itís not an imperial

Sixpoint Diesel is a solid stout. Not much aroma. Pour is very dark with a thin but creamy head. Roasty flavors dominate with some chocolate notes and a little bit of hop bitterness in the end. Sixpoint Diesel will fill the bill if you have a craving for a stout.

Comes out of the tap a deep, rich coffee brown with a thick light tan head. Smoky aroma has roast malt, coffee, hoppy, and subtle caramel notes. I love smoky and hoppy beers! Satisfying flavor has a smoky, malty core and notes of woody hops, caramel and molasses plus a hint of coffee. Texture, though, seems a bit on the thin side, though fizz is decent. I hope to sample more Sixpoint offerings in the next few days.
