On tap at Capone’s. Poured a deeper amberish/brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of toast, chocolate, lightly earhty, yeastiness, and some tart cherries. Tastes of chocoalte, dark fruits (raisins and plums), lighter yeast, and lighter spices. Lacing left on the glass. Alcohol content well hidden.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Nickls (1297) - SE DC, Washington DC, USA - MAY 28, 2010
(Old BA rate - tap May 09)
Dark, dark brown color with ruby hints; thin slightly off-white head. Pretty dense looking. Plums; sweetish maltiness; a little vinous. Dark sweet fruits; almost a little dry if that makes sense? Vinous where others in the style lean toward a bit sweeter/sugary. Medium MF; not sticky; very subtle carbonation. Hugely drinkable for me and the dryish nature upped this portion of the rating. Interesting and satisfying.

Tap @ RnH: dark brown pour with red highlights. Sweet toffee, raisins, caramel and candy sweetness, some coffee and tart notes. Finishes sort of brandy-ish, nuts and soy. Smooth mouthfeel but a little thin.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 CUJO (383) - Brooklyn, New York, USA - AUG 3, 2009
RnH: tap: pours a dark red/ amber/ copper leaving a thin off white head. Smells like Jaeger Dr Pepper by way of artificial fruits (syrup?!). Medium carbonation doesn’t do enough to wash away the sugary coating in your mouth, slight alcohol finish.
2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20 DeadGirl (473) - La Jolla, California, USA - JUL 22, 2009
UPDATED: APR 29, 2010 On tap at Rattle ’N’ Hum (NYC): In a 13 oz glass, pours like Coca-Cola. Smells dangerous, but to my surprise goes down pretty smooth. Tastes of watered down coffee, faint caramel, brown sugar, and a slight kick of spices at the end. It’s okay, but will be easily forgotten. #077 on 22072010, DG.

Sample @ EBF 09. Pours a dark caramel color with a thin tan head. Aroma is candi sugar, dark fruit, caramel, and a bit of chocolate as well. Taste is roughly the same, with a bit of a watery body. I’m disappointed - it wasn’t what it could’ve been.

Taste of brown sugar, more molasses, candy sugar, some caramel and light spices, with a bit of alcohol in the finish. Awfully sweet.
