sheatripper (826), Brooklyn, New York, USA Sep 15, 2008 Draught at Pacific Standard. Poured into tulip a cloudy but bright orange with no head. Rich candy-like caramel aroma, sweet with tangerine and mango. Flavor of quite sweet malts with orange, tangerine and tropical fruit--like a jolly rancher infused with piney hops. This citrusy/tropical fruit lollipop sweetness really takes the foreground, but this one definitely finishes hoppy, with a citrus and pine character that’s initially more tingly and zesty than bitter or astringent. Takes on more resin after several sips. I’ve been waiting a couple years to try this. Nice 2IPA from the local boys, if a bit on the sweet side. goldtwins (3740), Nesconset, New York, USA Sep 6, 2008 Growler. Poured a hazy orange-amber color with a small off-white head. The aroma was big on the citrus and grapefruit. Grapefruit flavor with a mild-moderate bitterness. Medium bodied. Long finish. LilBeerDoctor (635), East Setauket, New York, USA Sep 6, 2008 Growler. Pours a dark brown with a thick foamy tan head. Aroma of piney and citrusy hops, sweet citrusy malt. Flavor of lots of citrusy malt and bitter hops, light tropical fruits and melon rind. A little sweeter than I’d prefer but it’s pretty well balanced. Very drinkable (the 10.6% is completely hidden). Another winner from Sixpoint. fredandboboflo (627), East Setauket, New York, USA Sep 6, 2008 Growler. Aroma of citrus (orange-juicey), pine. Flavor quite bitter with an ample malt backbone, but again, quite bitter. Good bitter though. Pine sticks around, citrus tones don’t for the most part. Malt actually does come out more later, but never outdoes the bitter edge. Rich. Nice one. beerbill (1316), Laurel, New York, USA Sep 6, 2008 On tap at the Sixpoint tasting at Dave’s Bellport Beer and Soda. Pours a hazy darker gold that is again a shade darker than the Hop Obama I had just before. Off-white head. Pleasant aroma of malt and pine. The flavor begins with a very strong malt backbone followed by some moderate pine. The pine flavor has more of a resinous quality and less of the bitterness, which contributes to the nice rich mouthfeel. The bitterness that is present lingers beyond the swallow for several seconds. The alcohol is very well hidden. This was my favorite beer of the evening.
