Gorilla Warfare Porter is a silky smooth porter made with 40 lbs of Park Slope’s Gorilla Coffee Ethiopian Yergacheffe blend, a Fair Trade and Organic Certified coffee roasted in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. The coffee has winey, spicy notes with hints of baker’s chocolate. Combined with patent malt, the signature of many great English-style porters, this is one silky smooth, coffee-rich porter.

Hand bottle courtesy of Shane poured into a pint glass. This is a great looking porter with a deep mahogany hue and a huge creamy tan head that maintains a cap for the duration and leaves big sheets of lacing. The aroma is dominated by the English malts but with plenty of coffee and chocolate in the nose as well. The taste is slightly more complex than the nose with the same English malts as a base. There is a more noticeable hop presence up front with a slight bitter kick before the dark chocolate and coffee take over. The finish is a slightly bitter combo of coffee and hops. The mouthfeel is unbelievably creamy and pretty full-bodied for the style. This is a top-notch porter and one that I would be drinking a lot of if I had access to it. Thanks to Shane for the opportunity!

Black with a beige head. Aroma is coffee, roasty, a tad stale, earthy. Flavor packs a bitter coffee wallop. Roasted malts, burnt coffee, light smoke, earth. Good. Strong bitterness from the coffee.

UPDATED: FEB 12, 2012 On draft at Good Beer. I love how Sixpoint keeps churning out new releases. Here is a roast coffee porter made with Gorilla brand coffee. It is a roasty coffee porter with lots of brown sugar sweetness. It is easy on the acidtiy and the hopping is just right, so it goes down smoothly and leaves a mild aftertaste. As it warms, it begins to release a floral aroma. Another very fine Sixpoint production. Took a couple of points off after a second tasting - not as sweet and fresh as the first time I had it.

UPDATED: APR 21, 2010 I loved this, what a great Coffee Porter. So rich and smooth. Cask at Tiger. Nice balanced so its not all coffee. Not much alcohol presence. I was not sure before I had it how bitter it may be from roasted coffee but is was so sweet and delicious. Needed to re-rate this. Had again recently and was much thinner. Just more overpowering coffee and less creamy smooth flavor. From 4.2 to 3.9

Tap at Stags Head pours rich dark brown with rich aromas of toffee and cocoa. Tastes chocolatey, of coffee, earth, malt, slight spice and earth. Quite nice brew with velvety finish.

On tap at the Blind Tiger. A great looking beer. Black with tan head.Coffee and chocolate. Nice fizz. I liked sipping this and I liked gulping this. Unfortunately, it didn’t last long. Finishes with a hoppy kick.

(OId BA rate - tap) Near black color, with some brown tones. Nice-looking thick, milky tan head. Great lacing throughout the sample. Bittersweet chocolate, roasted malts, and lots of coffee bean aromas. Very much like roasted coffee with good malt sweetness to balance it out. Nice bitter chocolate ending on it. A bit thinner than I expected, but with nice light carbonation. Not overly mouthfilling, but still nice. This is very drinkable, even though it has a lot of strong flavors. Great sipper for cooler weather, and would recommend for after dinner. Overall, really liked this

Aroma of roast coffee. Pours black with light brown film. Taste is just heavy coffee. Not much else to it.

draft @ sunset grill - dark brown with thick tan head; nice roasty, nutty and coffee aromas; body is on the thin side, but this was a pretty tasty porter; coffee slightly muted in the flavors; gentle, soft texture; a little bitter in the finish; good stuff
