Commercial Description:
In keeping with the Illinois senator’s unifying theme, the "Hop Obama" is an indefinable ale that doesn’t adhere to traditional style guidelines. The 5.2% ABV creation contains five different kinds of European crystal malt and three different kinds of Pacific Northwest Hops. Combined with a Scottish yeast strain for fermentation, the result is a highly drinkable beer with a big malt background and an "Obama" of hops that imparts floral and citrus notes with just a hint of spiciness.

Draft: cloudy orange, hoppy aroma, dry hoppy ale with plenty of malt presence, not bad

Tap at Barcade: Hazy, deep orange pour with a creamy off-white head. Earthy hop aroma. Some citrus qualities come through along with caramel and a biscuit character. Slightly fizzy feel. Flavor is a twiggy/earthy hop character along with candied citrus fruits. Has a biscuity back and a long earthy/spicy hoppy finish. A satisfying and earthy Pale Ale.

Growler into Sam Adams Lager glass. Pours opaque cloudy orange with a big, rocky off-white head. Aroma is biscuity malt and citrus hops, hint of pine. Taste is sweet citrus and caramel malt on the front, with a prickly earthy, piney hop character emerging on the back of the tongue, and soft lingering bitterness on the finish that coats the throat, along with a hint of biscuity malt. Mouthfeel is creamy, with a subdued carbonation. Like their IPA, the malt never really emerges from the hops -- it comes out a bit underneath, but never really establishes a presence independent of the hoppy character. Good beer - interesting, and very drinkable.

TAP NY 08. Hazy light orange in color. Aroma: a good deal of fresh resinous PNW hops- citrus and flowers with some light malty sweetness in the background. Taste is pretty easy drinking, with fresh resinous hops, a good deal of citrus, medium bodied with some light caramel sweetness in the background and a touch of yeast. Finishes with a moderate bitterness. Nicely done.

On tap at Marshall Stack. I really liked this one. Was expecting just a nice hoppy IPA, but it was very well balanced with malt, which adds some creaminess to the mouthfeel while still retaining the bite of the hops.

Interesting combination of ingredients in this one, but somehow it works. Nice citrus and grassy hop flavors. Good residual malt sweetness and well balanced.

On draft at CB Six. Poured with an orange, almost wheat like color and rather frothy head with tight bubbles. Had the aroma of a moist mildew laden beach towel and tasted the same. Had very little hop aroma and flavor and was not supported with any meaningful malt background...it just died on the tounge. This was terrible.
