COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Mad Scientists at Sixpoint Brewery worked with Gizmodo to create Hop Tech 431, an IPA brewed with an unreleased, experimental hop strain. To find the strain we worked with hop breeder Gene Probasco, to find an experimental hop unavailable in other brews, but on the cusp of making it to the big time. We decided on HBC 431, a strain which, quite uncommonly, is of unknown parentage. It has unique earthy, woody notes that could make for very interesting beers down the road.

On tap @ st Gambrinus. Clean butter color. Smallish head. Reserved nose. Straw and grass. Dull malts. Taste peps up some. Medium to light body. Reserved. Where are these hops?

On tap at On Tap - Whole Foods’ Columbus Circle in-store bar. Appearance - a beautiful light amber with a creamy white head and beautiful lacing. Despite being a beer that’s supposed to be all about the hops, I was underwhelmed by the aroma - faint grassy notes, but fairly muted. On the palate, a creamy mouthfeel with hints of pine and grass, finishing with a clean and lingering, but not overpowering, bitterness. Not a bad way to spend a pint, but I wouldn’t seek it out.

Draft at Gizmodo Home of the Future. Pours a hazy gold with one finger of white foam and good retention. Aroma is pine and resin, peach, strawberry. Taste is sweet malts, orange, peach, and pine with very little bitterness. Good.
