It’s been less than a year since we released our four core beers in cans, and we’re ecstatic to announce a new addition to the flock. This isn’t a seasonal release, like the Autumnation of last fall or Diesel, still going ’round this winter. It isn’t our upcoming spring seasonal can, either. It’s a never-before-released, big beer in a slim, 12 oz. can with a potent burst of hops and as strong as an ox: Resin. We zeroed in on the botanical structure of the hop cone to get to the essence of this beer. When hops are at their peak maturity, their cores swell up with a sticky, golden, resinous substance that is the flavor you crave from an IPA. WIth an IBU of 103 and ABV of 9.1%, Resin can be loosely described as a double IPA — but rarely do Sixpoint beers adhere to any strict style demands.

Poured from a can into a pint glass: Pours amber with a slight white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, and pine. Taste is more of the same, but is really sweet which I would expect with a double IPA. The pine resin is strong with this one. Medium body, medium carbonation. It’s alright but too sweet.

Light rust orange with a persistent, thin milky surface. Hard water mineral aroma is most prevalent with iron, gravel and calcium, while lots of pine resin and white grapefruit oil fill in the traditional lower hop levels.

Tons of toffee and dry caramel malts in the flavor, with green tea and so much resin; this is as straight and simple as it gets. Mild herbs with mostly mint coming through. Brown sugar, honey, orange oil; typical barley wine blurring stuff with pleasant enough flavors.

Heavy palate with the crystal slickness in full. This is as Bush era American as it gets, and it does a fine job with tempering its aggressiveness for the most part.

From a can. Pours cloudy orange, big fruity aroma, tiny lasting head, a full body with a lingering grapefruit bitterness and some resin mouth feel. A great beer for those who like huge hop flavours.

12oz can into a pint glass. Pours a slightly hazy medium gold with a frothy one finger white head. Head retention is long lasting considering the strength with some spotty lacing. Aroma is a huge citrus punch of hops with a strong lemon-lime note; almost like opening a can of Sprite. There is a touch of vanilla in there as well. This is one of the more interesting aromas from an IPA I have experienced. Huge punch of citrus in the flavor as the lemon lime present in the aroma comes through in the taste. That same light vanilla note is present in the taste along with a light biscuit from the malt. Bitterness is absolutely over the top and really begins to get a bit taxing half way through the glass. Drinkability is surprisingly high with the alcohol very well hidden. Overall, this beer impresses me. Crazy high drinkability and a very unique hop aroma and taste compared to many other IPA/IIPA’s on the market. Definitely one to try.

Can from Whole Foods Miami Beach. Gold pour with white head. Very nice fruity, sweet and resinous aroma. Flavor is sweet up front with a slightly bitter resinous finish. Carbonation is pretty light and body is not as heavy as most double IPAs I have had.

Unbelievable hop aroma that is nearly soapy but robust w/ citrus flavors immediately draws you in to the hazy copper pour that has a big foamy white head & leaves lacing. The taste certainly reveals the 100+ IBUs & just a tad too much for my palate. The alcohol is hidden nicely & it’s certainly a tasty beer but just slightly too bitter for me. Nevertheless, very good!

Great tasting beer with smooth clean mouthfeel. Light with strong lasting hoppiness bit not overwhelming. Little lacing but decent head retention. Very smooth for 9.1%

UPDATED: DEC 12, 2014 Draught at Haket, Göteborg, Sweden. Shady golden, medium white head. Bready malt aroma, some piney and perfumy hops. Medium bodied, medium carbonation. Dry with medium bitterness. Dull.

New sample at Ölrepubliken, Göteborg, Sweden. Muck fresher this time, plenty of troical fruit and crisp bitterness.

Slightly disappionted with this beer. It delivers a nice resinous mouthfeel with a pretty straight forward American cirtus/piney hop profile. The aroma is more subdued than expected and the taste, although fairly hoppy, is unbalanced in relation to the extreme lingering bitter aftertaste. Needs more late hop additions!

Can. Almost clear burnt gold with a ton of lacing. Aroma is dank sweet pine. The taste adds super bitter resin notes but, there's also a metallic/solvent bite in the finish. The mouthfeel comes on with a strong attack and bite with high carb and a slick resinous finish. Pretty good but, lacking balance - could be much better and just as "big." ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
