It’s been less than a year since we released our four core beers in cans, and we’re ecstatic to announce a new addition to the flock. This isn’t a seasonal release, like the Autumnation of last fall or Diesel, still going ’round this winter. It isn’t our upcoming spring seasonal can, either. It’s a never-before-released, big beer in a slim, 12 oz. can with a potent burst of hops and as strong as an ox: Resin. We zeroed in on the botanical structure of the hop cone to get to the essence of this beer. When hops are at their peak maturity, their cores swell up with a sticky, golden, resinous substance that is the flavor you crave from an IPA. WIth an IBU of 103 and ABV of 9.1%, Resin can be loosely described as a double IPA — but rarely do Sixpoint beers adhere to any strict style demands.

The name of this beer caught my attention so I figured why not give it a try. It’s pretty good. I wasn’t sure what to expect with it so I kept my mind open. It was a very pleasant taste. Not a hop bomb, not a tropical fruit bomb but it did have a really hoppy bite to it and a nice malty backbone. It was super balanced and for never hearing about it I was pleasantly surprised. Definitely worth trying. I had it on tap, so I’m not sure how it is out of the can.

UPDATED: SEP 16, 2015 Slim, 12 oz. cans poured into a snifter/lager glass. The first tasting in June 2014 involved a can with a BB date on bottom of the can: 23 Aug. 2014. The 2nd, in Sept. 2015, with a very fresh can with a BB date of March 2016. The review is mainly based on the fresher sample. A - Pours with one and a half fingers of off-white creamy head over a copper-colored body. The head soon settles to thinner but durable full top coat and leaves nice, sticky lacing. Aroma: Pungent piney, herbal and fruity hops with some faint oniony/spicy notes in the background. Flavor: As expected. plenty of piney/resinous hops but remarkably little grapefruit until the aftertaste. Surprisingly sweet and bready up front, but quickly turns fruity, herbal and moderately bitter. Nice lingering hops aftertaste with citrus and herbal notes and even remnants of the malt load. Palate: Medium body, moderately high but admirably soft carbonation. Overall: a powerful DIPA without high bitterness and good mouthfeel. Highly recommended for hop heads.

Lives up to its name! Lots of pine in the aroma. Sharp bitterness comes through right away. Warm palate and mouthfeel.

About a month before the best by date so it’s probably not super fresh. Pours a glowing orange with a whitehead. Smell is caramel and orange and slightly hoppy but not very much so probably due to it not being super fresh. Taste is slightly alcoholic somewhat sweet and moderately bitter. Medium to full body with normal carbonation. Not as hoppy or dry as I would have liked but perhaps because it isn’t fresh.

UPDATED: JUL 16, 2014 Poured from a freshly tapped keg. The pub I got this at has 25?+beer lines from keg to faucet, so the head for most of their draftpours is usually pretty well under control and dissipates quickly, which was the case here.Nothing unusual about the appearance - standard amber withquickly dissipating cream-colored head. I didn?t get much for nose except some small hints of apple, andthe expected pine/citrus. I always seem to rate the last beer I?vehad to drink, by which time my nose is well anaesthetised.Mea culpa.Lovely rich, luscious double IPA, a touch on the sweet, malty side, but definitely balanced out with strong hoppiness - both low pine& citrus as well as fruity notes. Almost more fruit in the nose thanthe taste, though. Mouth feel was rich & "chewy". Just had another at the Thirsty Moose in Dover NH. Experience flipped almost 180 degrees with respect to nose and flavor. Almost no nose, but a great deal of fruit/apple along with pine and citrus on the tongue. Still stand by my other comments. Awesome.
