COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It’s been less than a year since we released our four core beers in cans, and we’re ecstatic to announce a new addition to the flock. This isn’t a seasonal release, like the Autumnation of last fall or Diesel, still going ’round this winter. It isn’t our upcoming spring seasonal can, either. It’s a never-before-released, big beer in a slim, 12 oz. can with a potent burst of hops and as strong as an ox: Resin. We zeroed in on the botanical structure of the hop cone to get to the essence of this beer. When hops are at their peak maturity, their cores swell up with a sticky, golden, resinous substance that is the flavor you crave from an IPA. WIth an IBU of 103 and ABV of 9.1%, Resin can be loosely described as a double IPA — but rarely do Sixpoint beers adhere to any strict style demands.

Pours clear copper/orange with a large soapy white head. The aroma has mushy malt, creamy caramel and hints of grapefruit ~ fairly muted and non-descript for the style. It has a medium / full body that’s sticky with nice soft carbonation. The flavor starts with grapefruit hops, mushy malt and what was with the aroma, but the finish changes things up for the better a lot. It dries out, shows bright grapefruit, pine earth and has plenty of mouth coating resiny qualities. This hides the abv pretty well. Solid IIPA.

Can from JB. Translucent orange with a small white head and good lacing. Aroma of resinous hops, fruits and slight honey. Taste is good and malty with resinous hops. Slight floral notes. Mouthfeel is dry. Good DIPA . Nice and malty. Thanks JB.

Pours a orangish-brown on tap with frothy white head that thins to leave light lacing. Aroma of piney resins and slight citrus. Taste is a wonderful, fresh hop explosion in your mouth that goes all over the hop spectrum, landing on a cleanly bitter finish. Good stuff.

On the whole this beer is greater than the sum of its parts for me. Drinking out of a wine glass with some air in it is allowing for some of the nice maltiness and breadiness that’s a little hidden to come out and balance the overwhelming grapefruit pulp bomb that dominates this beer. This is definately a sipper and it requires some patience to get all the wonderful complexities out of it. Impressed by how not overly-sweet it is for such a high alcohol content beer. Definately hoppy but the texture is surprisingly creamy and unsticky, especially when it comes down in temperature a bit. I was pleasantly surprised with this one.

Pour from a slim 12 oz can. Clear amber brew with nice head. Aroma dominated by piney hops, some citrus. Taste is sweet malts at the very start with pine and resin kicking in mid swallow. Finish is solidly hoppy, but restrained with some of the sweet malts still coming through. Lots of malt from start to finish keeps this from being a hop bomb. Very good but not a standout as a DIPA.

From a can poured a darker brown color with a small amount of head. Strong hoppy flavor with a lingering aftertaste.
