It’s been less than a year since we released our four core beers in cans, and we’re ecstatic to announce a new addition to the flock. This isn’t a seasonal release, like the Autumnation of last fall or Diesel, still going ’round this winter. It isn’t our upcoming spring seasonal can, either. It’s a never-before-released, big beer in a slim, 12 oz. can with a potent burst of hops and as strong as an ox: Resin. We zeroed in on the botanical structure of the hop cone to get to the essence of this beer. When hops are at their peak maturity, their cores swell up with a sticky, golden, resinous substance that is the flavor you crave from an IPA. WIth an IBU of 103 and ABV of 9.1%, Resin can be loosely described as a double IPA — but rarely do Sixpoint beers adhere to any strict style demands.

Pours a hazy dark amber with a frothy white head which leaves a nice cap. Aroma of slight grapefruit but more of an earthy pine hop smell. Flavor is predominately floral, piney hops with a fair amount of bitterness. There is a little sweet malt in the background with a hint of citrus but not much. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Pretty good IPA overall, not as well balanced as some but refreshing and flavorful.

Pours orange-amber with a medium off white head. Aroma is pine & sweet malts. Taste really is resious with heavy - but not unpleasant - pine. A syrupy sweetness runs throughout the palate and a slightly astringent bitterness hits you in the finish. Not bad, if you like bitter beers.

A dark golden appearance with a white head. Aroma contains some lemon, orange, and perfume. Flavor is bitter and boozy with citrus, caramel, and alcohol. Aftertaste is bittersweet. Overall a big but tasty beer.

Pours a mostly clear, classic golden color with an eggshell colored head that is just the right size. It’s a nice looking beer. Smells like a piney pilsner. Doesn’t drink like a pilsner. Full, oily mouthfeel and pretty obtrusive hop explosion. There’s quite a bit of alcohol noted in the flavor too. I think it has pretty good balance despite the big hop presence. I like it.

Single can from Julios. Pours out a slightly hazy light golden amber with a frothy off-white head that settles to a thick lace. Fine carbonation. Aroma of spice and burnt rubber. Flavor of burnt rubber, slight bit of citrus and some spice. Good malty backbone. Herbal and bitter finish. Dangerously smooth at 9 percent.

12 oz can. Pours a orange yellow with a nice fluffy white head that leaves some nice lacing. Aroma of floral hops with slight piney and earthy tones. Tastes is sweet with piney and earthy hops and high malt body.

Pour is nice light copper with a thick white head. Nose is floral and citrus with hints of biscuit. Taste is less hoppy that I would imagine with more of a baked bread taste though the hop bitterness comes on at the end, with more floral and pine than citrus. Mouthfeel is medium light to medium aftertaste is bold and lingers for a bit. Overall a nice beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Comes out of the growler a pretty clear amber with a thick, foamy and fine-bubbled ivory head that "pillows" some. The sample I got foamed like a mad dog after I cracked open the growler, so be forewarned. Aroma is not strong, but it invites with its resiny, evergreen aroma that has woody, malty and citrus underpinnings. Flavor is definitely more robust than the aroma - quite hoppy, rather bitter, more resiny than woody, hints of citrus and malt. They ain’t kiddin’ on 103 IBU! Ragged, lively texture has good firmness and lots of tingle, dancing all the way down the pipes. A toast to Sixpoint for finally coming to Atlanta!
