COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It’s been less than a year since we released our four core beers in cans, and we’re ecstatic to announce a new addition to the flock. This isn’t a seasonal release, like the Autumnation of last fall or Diesel, still going ’round this winter. It isn’t our upcoming spring seasonal can, either. It’s a never-before-released, big beer in a slim, 12 oz. can with a potent burst of hops and as strong as an ox: Resin. We zeroed in on the botanical structure of the hop cone to get to the essence of this beer. When hops are at their peak maturity, their cores swell up with a sticky, golden, resinous substance that is the flavor you crave from an IPA. WIth an IBU of 103 and ABV of 9.1%, Resin can be loosely described as a double IPA — but rarely do Sixpoint beers adhere to any strict style demands.

On tap at Metro Pub. Sixpoint is winning me over. Another good beer. Clear golden pour with frothy head. Aroma of citrus/orange. Lots of citrus all over this. Pulpy and sweet with a strong bitter kick. Alcohol burn was appealing. Good beer. I will buy cans of this.

Can at home while visiting Jacksonville. Orange caramel aroma, with lemon and pine. Medium body, medium carbonation. Lots of pine, lemon, light caramel, good bitterness, nice balance. tasty.

Deep gold brew with fast fading head that smells of pine, serious pine. Taste is a hard core pine resin that makes this an excellent IPA and one that I would love to drink regularly. Would say this is the perfect brew if it wasn’t for the high price tag on it. Could overlook that since it is 9.1 ABV but the six pack was the same price as some 6-7% ABV really good twelve pack IPA’s. So for the price and the ABV (cause I am all about the kick) I will have to go with the twelve packs. On the 4th one from this six pack and still loving it.

Can ordered at Pat’s Tap on South Mpls. Poured into pint glass. Floral notes on the nose with hoppy resin characteristics as well. Golden orange in color with initial froth action that dissipates. Taste is very smooth and resiny with a nice hop bitterness that melds into the overall drinking experience really well. Solid earthy, pine taste also comes into play. Impressed by this one. Bigger nose than taste but it’s very easy to drink at this alcohol level. Makes me excited to sample more of this brewery’s efforts.

Pours a clear, pale, golden-yellow, with smallish head. Aroma is one of the strong points of this beer: very floral and full of pine and spruce. Flavor is a bit disappointing after all that bouquet. It’s quite bitter and there’s a lot of forward hops, but not a lot of citrus or pine flavor. I guess I was expecting more from a beer with the name ’Resin.’

On tap @ Malt House. Pours clear medium copper with thin white head. Aroma is medium caramel malt, very light roasty notes; and earthy vegetal hops. Taste is clean hefty caramel malt, medium but potent sweetness; hops are lightly juicy, dank, big bitterness. Fairly malt driven for a DIPA, but quite nice and flavorful overall.

I remember liking this a lot more last time has some hop scents mixed with malt and citrus. Fairly dark golden color. Tastes like malt and a bit of an alcohol bite, with not as much hops as I remember.

Can. Pours clear amber with light beige white head - good retention. Nose is robustly hoppy - has citrus peel, pine needles, just a bit of catpissy hop resins hanging out in the background. Truly a tapestry in the nose alone. Flavor is...whoa...I’ve not been taken aback by a sip of beer like this is a long time. That there is a rush of residual complex malt sugars worthy of a very good barley wine - has sweetness, but is not sweet, the malt flavor invokes the umami sensation on the palate. Hops play a delicate counterpoint throughout - with some citrus relief from the wall of malt flavor - and then, finally, offering a floral/bitter punctuation at the end. It is hard to offer a brash and innovative beer in a market of mass consumption, thus this proves itself even more of an adventure for the palate. Reminds of the big freshly hoppy beers Lagunitas used to offer in the mid-2000s when they were still a microbrewery.
