COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Itís been less than a year since we released our four core beers in cans, and weíre ecstatic to announce a new addition to the flock. This isnít a seasonal release, like the Autumnation of last fall or Diesel, still going íround this winter. It isnít our upcoming spring seasonal can, either. Itís a never-before-released, big beer in a slim, 12 oz. can with a potent burst of hops and as strong as an ox: Resin. We zeroed in on the botanical structure of the hop cone to get to the essence of this beer. When hops are at their peak maturity, their cores swell up with a sticky, golden, resinous substance that is the flavor you crave from an IPA. WIth an IBU of 103 and ABV of 9.1%, Resin can be loosely described as a double IPA ó but rarely do Sixpoint beers adhere to any strict style demands.

Light copper color with little lacing. Beer starts out a bit sweet and citrusy, with lots of hop bitterness at the end. This beer is totally in balance. 9.1 alcohol is pretty well hidden.

12oz can: Pours a clear bright golden with a clingy-lacing froth of white head. Has a lightly sweet pale malty nose with lots of resiny piney hop notes. Starts with good fullness and sweet lightly toasted pale malts dripping with hop bitterness before a drier, slightly warming and lingering bittersweet finish. Certainly loaded with hops, but a touch too bitter for my preferences. A pretty good double IPA nonetheless.

Pours a dark, murky amber with plenty of carbonation inside and a large off white foam head that is slow to dissipate. Smells of sweet piney hops, orange peel, sourdough and alcohol. After taking a while to kind of sit back and examine this, I think sourdough best describes the taste. Hops are moderate but the alcohol and sourdough taste are what sticks out to me the most. Leaves and alcoholy bitter taste it the mouth. A good offer for a high alcohol beer coming out of a can, unfortunately that rarely makes for a good beer.

Amber pour, white head. Loads of sticky malts and big fruity/citrus hops on the nose. Flavor is big and bold. Malt bill is big, good amount of resiny hops. Pretty damn delicious!

Can. Out of the can, which is bad ass. Bias go from there. Aroma isnít applicable. Nor appearance. Taste is sweet malt mess with slight hop bitterness but no citrus, fruit etc. Definitely doesnít feel old by any stretch, nor is the bottle date holding on to this. A seriously sweet mess that just doesnít work for me. Even elements of "wet" hopped beer donít have this taste which is unique and off putting to me. Overall, not my thing but the can is bad ass.

UPDATED: OCT 26, 2012 On draft at Tattooed Mom in Philly. Poured into a goblet, light orange color, two finger head, not much lacing. This beer is a hop blast. Bitter with not much malt backbone. Slightly artificial and a bit unbalanced for my taste. It was adequate as the only ipa in the bar. Update: Drank from can and found this to be quite good. Very tart and bitter, but with an underlying sweetness. Definitely approaching the upper echelon of ipaís.

Pours a bright orange with a two finger head. Notes of citrus with light spice go into a sweeter textural mouthfeel. ABV is upfront but hides at the end with a lingering finish.

Funny I never thought of this one as a DIPA till I saw it written here. The higher abv really is not that noticeable to me, and though very resinous, not as heavy as many doubles. The bitterness is fairly brutal, but if you like that, it can be an enjoyable beer. Negative on the palate for the strangely quickly dissolving carbonation / head. As a practical matter, the slim cans and high abv are excellent for travel / camping situations.
