It’s been less than a year since we released our four core beers in cans, and we’re ecstatic to announce a new addition to the flock. This isn’t a seasonal release, like the Autumnation of last fall or Diesel, still going ’round this winter. It isn’t our upcoming spring seasonal can, either. It’s a never-before-released, big beer in a slim, 12 oz. can with a potent burst of hops and as strong as an ox: Resin. We zeroed in on the botanical structure of the hop cone to get to the essence of this beer. When hops are at their peak maturity, their cores swell up with a sticky, golden, resinous substance that is the flavor you crave from an IPA. WIth an IBU of 103 and ABV of 9.1%, Resin can be loosely described as a double IPA — but rarely do Sixpoint beers adhere to any strict style demands.

12 ounce can, stamp on the bottom says best before 26 November 2012. Served in a snifter, the beer pours a hazy golden/orange color with an inch off-white head that fizzled away quickly. There’s a good amount of lacing. The brew smells like citrusy hops (tropical fruit, grapefruit), pine hops, and some caramel malt. I think the taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but there’s some earthy/floral hops noticeable too. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it has moderate carbonation and it’s a bit creamy. I’d like to try this fresher in the future. It’s a solid brew, but I prefer other Double/Imperial IPA’s compared to this one. With that being said, this is still definitely worth trying.

Bottle, pours hazy orange with medium head. Aroma is some citrus, pine, wood, some tropical fruits. Taste is like aroma with lots of hops and some mild malt background. Very pleasant, not that complex or mindblowing. Nice!

12oz can. Rating #232. Bright orange, clear with a white head. Nice aroma, pine and resin, very floral and fragrant. Above average bitterness, more pine and a big aftertaste. (2397)

12oz slimboy can courtesy of Tyler. Hazy orange-tan with a fluffy off-white head. Rather mild and smooth for a IIPA, some toasty malt, mild tropical hop tones. A tad soapy and insipid, with a generally unpleasant dry, acrid aftertaste. Some mellow alcohol tinged honey tones. Wow, this is really unimpressive, tinny, metallic. Lacks much depth. I am not impressed with most Sixpoint beers, and this one is the biggest disappointment yet.

on draft at fest of ales. big hoppy nose of citrus and yet grassy...very grassy indeed and oh so sweet smelling...this is a very good aroma. the flavor is pretty much the same huge hoppy flavor of citrus, grapefruit, tangerine, maybe some mango...this is a great beer for any hophead...plenty of lacing and huge white head that was there for awhile. definte drinkable and can drink alot more of this.

Aroma of toffee/nougat and moderate citrus. Appearance is caramel gold with bone head. Flavor of malts up front, but with an uneven, alcohol/hop finish. Palate is lightly bubbly. Kinda off and unpleasant.

Awesome impy IPA!! Resin pours an orange color with a big and fluffy white head. The head leaves some great lacing around the glass. The nose is full of hops, citrus, earth and a bit of lightly toasted bread. The flavors are incredibly well-balanced and delicious. There’s plenty of hops in this brew, with a dry and spicy mouthfeel and lots of citrus. The beer finishes spicy, dry and very hoppy. All-around a great IIPA!!

Pours a beautifully bright, amberish/copper-gold with a tiny hint of haze. It’s a bit darker than your typical double DIPA. Pour results in a rocky one-finger off-tan head. Decent retention with average lacing. Average amount of visible carbonation. Not much on the nose at first, but it became more aromatic as it warmed. Hints of pine and slightly earthy hops with a touch of caramel malt sweetness to keep things balanced. A faint floral presence and just a suggestion of mango create a pleasant experience. Taste follows the nose for the most part. A grapefruit-pineapple citrus hop wallop up front followed by a honey-brown sugar maltness that keeps things in check…not overly complex but pretty damn tasty and delightful. Alcohol is not shy and sneaks in at the end. Medium bodied; sticky with a moderate carbonation. Very refreshing. Slightly dry finish. Love the skinny can! This is not a hopheads DIPA. Balanced…refined…refreshing. Not a crazy hop-bomb. For me, this is the ultimate delectable beer from Sixpoint. I have enjoyed every one of their beers so far and this one might be my absolute favorite and I will seek it out again..

12 ounce can into tulip glass, no can dating. Pours extremely hazy red orange color with a dense 2-3 finger khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a thick cap that lasts. Some nice soapy lacing on the glass. Aromas of orange, grapefruit, pine, floral, caramel, biscuit, grass, and herbal spiciness. Nice aromas with good balance; but are pretty faint for being a DIPA. Taste of big grapefruit, orange, caramel, biscuit, herbal, floral, pine, grass, and earthy spiciness. Fair amount of bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, pine, caramel, bread, herbal, and earthy spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Very malt forward in flavor profile despite being 103 IBU; but still has some good balance. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a creamy, sticky, and slick mouthfeel. Very smooth to sip on for 9.1%; with only a slight alcohol warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice DIPA. Good malt flavor balance with bitterness makes this very smooth to sip on without being overwhelming. Quite enjoyable stuff.
