It’s been less than a year since we released our four core beers in cans, and we’re ecstatic to announce a new addition to the flock. This isn’t a seasonal release, like the Autumnation of last fall or Diesel, still going ’round this winter. It isn’t our upcoming spring seasonal can, either. It’s a never-before-released, big beer in a slim, 12 oz. can with a potent burst of hops and as strong as an ox: Resin. We zeroed in on the botanical structure of the hop cone to get to the essence of this beer. When hops are at their peak maturity, their cores swell up with a sticky, golden, resinous substance that is the flavor you crave from an IPA. WIth an IBU of 103 and ABV of 9.1%, Resin can be loosely described as a double IPA — but rarely do Sixpoint beers adhere to any strict style demands.

Picked up a four pack at Giant Eagle in Lancaster, Ohio. Pours a semi-clear golden amber colored brew with a decent sized and rocky off-white head that has some excellent retention and lacing. Aroma of citrus and pine hops. Man, I can pick up the hop scent two feet away from the glass. More aromas of grapefruit, raisin, and some tropical fruit. Taste is full bodied, fruity to the max, with some multi-grain malt and a touch of grapefruit juice. Finish is mildly bitter with more of a citrus and spicy hop aftertaste that slowly disappears. Pushing into the hoppy barley wine territory. I like the Energy Beverage sized can.

(Draught at Bishop’s Arms Folkungagatan, Stockholm, 10 March 2014) Amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, hoppy nose with notes of citrus, grapefruit, caramel, toffee and apricots. Malty, hoppy taste with grapefruit, orange peel, caramel, resin, pine needles and an impressive piney, citric bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Impressive and fresh hop character, all backed up by a solid malt backbone. Lovely beer!

If you crave hops then Six Point Resin is the brew for you. It opens with a sweet malted taste then erupts with a potent burst of hops on the finish. I love the long-lasting after taste that captivates the palette. Mouth-watering scents of citrus, malts, pine, resin, caramel and apricot permeate throughout. Six Point Resin is a full-bodied bomb squeezed into a sleek and slender 12 oz. can that is oh so drinkable. Pour into a pint glass to reveal the stunning bronze tinge and dramatic frothy head or guzzle from the can, either way produces a satisfying experience.

Pretty much a generic, tasty IPA. Nose a bit alcoholic. Flavors of resin, grapefruit, mildly sweet, nice bitterness in the finish that doesn’t overwhelm. Could certainly be a lot worse.

Poured form can. Cloudy, light amber in glass. Tons of fresh cut pine, backed by grapefruit, on nose. Whispers of biscuit malts. Rather inviting. The best smelling offering from Sixpoint sampled to date. Taste is pine and tropical fruits in large helpings. Astringent, but not too much so. A nice back and forth between bitter and sweet. High ABV hid well. Mildly oily mouthfeel. Well done.

Not as good as I was expecting from some reviews. Better than average dipa, like the reliance on piney hops which I think is better suited for a bigger IPA than the straight citrus approach. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Laranja escuro turva. Espuma de pouca formação. Aroma cítrico, caramelo e especiarias. No sabor, amargor proeminente, no início cítrico, seguinte um bom favor, com final seco e persistente. Muito boa. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can from 4 pack poured into glass. Orange and amber appearance. Lots of fruit and pine bursting out to the nose. Big resin, floral, and citrus hop taste! I got the taste of some alcohol too. Not bad, but I enjoyed the Hi-Res a little more.

poured from can into tulip, a orange amber with small white head and some lacing. aroma was of pine and biscuit. Med body and oily. Taste was pine, some biscuit and a little citrus hoppyness but more pine than anything. Different and I enjoyed it. Got as single and will buy as six this summer no problem.

Can from Pioneer supermarket on Columbus, poured into a pint glass at home. Peach coloured murk with a high and undiminished cream foam. Involving aroma of pine, peach, Pimms, Cointreau-soaked lady’s fingers (trifle bottoms) and mandarin cheesecake- impressively fresh hop from the can. Disappointingly sweet flavour with that hop promise bullied into submission by the soggy tinned peach, honey, menthol and throat sweet notes (Fisherman’s Friend, Lockets, Halls) typical of so many US DIPAs. Boring; dead, flavour absent of hop character. But won’t be giving the sink any.
