3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Can at Momofuku in Toronto. A surprise to find this on the menu at a Toronto restaurant, as Sixpoint has never had any beer available up there previously - brought in as a private order, I guess. Pours a beautiful clear orange-gold with a snow white head that a lot of lacing. Aroma is excellent - sweet and bready malt, floral hops, a suggestion of lemon balm, all in balance. Crisp and clean body, just as the name suggests. Flavour is lovely, with floral, grassy & all-around snappy hops coming to the forefront without being too aggressively better. Maybe my surprise at finding it in an unexpected place has skewed my rating up by a couple of points, but it’s still one of the best lagers I’ve had in ages.

On tap at Community Tap in Greenville. Great beer for the style- exactly what a pils should be. Clean and crisp. Went down pretty quickly after biking around greenville in 90 degree heat. Not complex or overdone. Appropriate grass/ herb and biscuit levels. Just about right.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Golden and orange body with minimal head. Aroma of honey, apricot, bread. As with most of the sixpoint beers, this is very drinkable but lacks some complexity. I think I prefer this over the IPA I had from the mixer pack. Not top notch, but solid overall in the pilsner category.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
On tap at Darby’s, pours a hazy yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out light bready malts and a touch of grassiness. Flavour is not very pilsner-like, with dry, almost cardboardy malts, a little grass and very lint bitterness. Makes me question the age of this. Not too good.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught at Darby’s Gastown, Vancouver; 12oz
Hazy dark blond color. The aroma is mild, some grass, some crisp malts, I’m afraid there’s a diacetyl shade too. Smooth mouthfeel, quite some residual sweetness for the style, the malt flavor is quite good, crusty bread, the bitterness level is correct, the hops are quite grassy, and the hint of butter is not actually disturbing. I sense a light sourness in the final, but it’s just a wild idea.
