3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz Can. The pour was a murky dark brown with a small (less than 1 finger) fizzy light brown head that was fully diminishing and had no lacing at all.
The aroma was of a roasted malt and a leathery doughy yeast with notes of dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, molasses and a mild hint of chilis.
The taste was much like the aroma, lightly sweet and a tad malty with a touch of chocolate and molasses early on and then becoming very lightly bitter with a shot of coffee and a hard to notice hint of the chili peppers towards the finish. The flavor lasted an average time after the swallow, with a mildly bitter mocha coffee taste and a super light peppery feel at the very end.
Mouthfeel was medium in body with a thin watery texture and an almost mild carbonation.
Overall this brew was not what I expected from a Chili Stout. I am always leary about peppery beers, but this one was very tasty with just a light peppery presence. I can see myself having this again...

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Serving: 12 oz. can. It pours a muddy brown color with a fading light brown head. The nose has some fruity smoked chili notes. The flavor highlights fruity chili notes, red pepper, smoked chili powder, cocoa powder, and slight roasted malt notes in the distance. This one is clearly about the peppers. Medium body with a long finish. Itís unusual which isnít bad but itís so different itís not one I would want another of.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz can. Pours dark brown, almost black, with a medium fizzy light brown head that quickly goes to a thin collar.
The aroma is nice mole spices - chocolate, cinnamon and chili.
The flavor is sweet chocolaty malts and cinnamon with a nice spicy chili kick in the finish. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and a bit watery.
Overall, a very nice mole beer - very similar to New Belgiumís version, but maybe a step below.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap; dark brown to black. Aroma of cocoa and chiles; flavor had a nice pepper kick. Quite smoky and cocoa. A hint of sweetness. Drinkable, but flavorful.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Had to ding the appearance because while this beer started out with a huge head it was almost immediately gone. Dark black with a few bubbles at the surface. Aroma is cinnamon, cocoa, peppers, pretty good. Flavor follows suit but is really not robust enough and feels like it has a watery aftertaste. Both Cocoa Mole from New Belgium and Mexican Chocolate Stout from Copper Kettle are better beers, probably due to the body being thicker.

Wow. Unique stout brewed with interesting spice. Almost has a chili pepper kick at the finish. Definitely try this one.

2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 3/20
Pours a thin black with almost no head. Aromas of Mexican food, chocolate roast and peppers. Goddamn, this thing smells spicy. First sip... Reveals way too much chipotle pepper. Fuck, this is hot. And not in a good way. Shit. I really wanted to like this beer, but the pepper is just too much.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Can pours deep amber with a thin tan head of foam. The aroma offers up some dark roasted malts, molasses covered cinnamon graham cracker and then a nice level of chili pepper. The taste delivers dark roasted malts, some sweet molasses and a sense of cinnamon. It gets to a modest degree of chili pepper taste and heat heading into the finish. Pretty nice.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Can at home. Pour is pitch black with a frothy khaki head and good lacing. Cocoa, chili peppers, cinnamon, nutmeg, gingerbread, light clove, coffee, and bread in the aroma. Taste is roasted chocolate, light cherries, chili peppers, heavy cinnamon, potpourri, roast, espresso, and dark fruits with a lightly smoky finish. Medium mouthfeel with medium-to-soft carbonation. Nice mole stout, but not quite as good as New Belgiumís version.
