12 ounce can. There’s a lot of roasted, unsweetened cocoa here, and I was happy to taste only a subtle pepper aspect. These flavors pair up nicely within the mouthfeel and malty framework of a stout. This beer also manages to not be too filling, always an added bonus. This is a surprisingly good product from a brewery that lacked my high expectations. Ska Mole Stout is worth a try and it has a few layers of taste to dig through.

From the can, black pour with a massive amount of green chiles and peppers in the nose, taste is cocoa with a nice chili pepper bite. The taste is not that far off cocoa mole from NB. Very good!!

Tap at Whole Foods Schaumburg. Served very cold in a Maudite snifter. Very dark brown color with a yellowish beige lace for a head. Ironically, no lace clings to the glass. Bakers chocolate and cayenne aroma. Fruity and slightly spicy peppers present themselves first in the sip. A little like a spicy raisin or fig. Subtle cocoa backs up the flavor. Malt is blended in and not at all prominent. Thin in the mouth and finishes more like a dark amber ale than a stout. Some heat clings to the back if the throat when done. Not as big and roasty as I had hoped. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Hay Merchant. Pours a clear amber with a tan head that quickly diminishes to nothing. The aroma is a strong coffee, smoke and cinammon. Thin mouthfeel with a strong cinnamon and pumpkin with nice sweet finish.

can. dark brown body, small dirty brown head. nose is almost entirely nutmeg and pumpkin spice with only a small bit of dark chcocolate dark malt. oily and syruoy with soy sauce / ink black malt, flabby, thin texture, low carbonation and starchy, husky pumpkin spice powder. very low chile presence. I made a foreign stout with chiles for my fifth batch of homebrew, it was better than this, and i am a terrible brewer.

Draught at Freshcraft. Chocolate and fall spices like anything you get in pumpkin beer. Also strong hints of the chilies.

can. Pours super dark with no head whatsoever. While I am disappointed at the lack of peppery heat, I am overall pleased with the subtlety of the spices. This is basically a solid stout with good chocolate character and a finish that makes me ponder the use of some adjuncts. I get maybe a cinnamon kind of thing hiding behind the chocolate and a bitterness that could be hops, but could also be peppers. It is a good option for a canned brew.

Sampled at an ESBLS tasting. It poured a clear black color with a tan head. The aroma was of chocolate, roasted malt, some peppers and dark fruity esters. The taste was spices, light hops and some bitterness with a sweet finish. Good stuff.

Unique and well worth the effort to track down. It’s got lots of coffee, cocoa, pepper and other spices on the nose. Pours a very deep dark black with a thin head that dissipates very fast leaving very little lacing. Medium bodied and a somewhat oily mouth feel to it. Taste is like dark chocolate, dark roast coffee, ancho pepper and some other minor notes. Goes down smooth and as it warms in your glass more flavors start to come out. Very nice stout and unique.

Bottle. Dark brown with light tan lace. Nose shows peppers, light cocoa, roast. Similar flavor--a little overly peppery to be enjoyed but maybe more authentic mole. Cool idea though.
