My Bottom Line:
Peppers dominate spices and dark malts in this otherwise memorable number.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam colours the darkness.
-Spices ARE boastful throughout, don’t get me wrong. But chile peppers even more so, to me.
-A light acidity clashes with the spiciness and chocolatey sugars.
-This is nowhere near as delicious as Nogne O’s collaboration with La Chingoneria which plays on the same theme.
-This must be quite good with sausages.

On tap at the Thirsty Monk, Asheville.

Nice little spicy and chocolatey dry stout right here. Very easy drinking. Really nice.

Canned. Poured deep brown with a tall, short-lived khaki head. The aroma picked up fresh, green, peppers and cocoa (some hotter spices too).. a hit of vanilla on the back.. interesting. The flavor found toasted black malt and cocoa at the core, with fresh peppers, nutmeg, and cinnamon throughout.. finished spicy with fairly generic roasted malts. Medium-bodied with a lot of spices on the palate.. ok feel and flow.

Can pours deep amber with a thin tan head of foam. The aroma offers up some dark roasted malts, molasses covered cinnamon graham cracker and then a nice level of chili pepper. The taste delivers dark roasted malts, some sweet molasses and a sense of cinnamon. It gets to a modest degree of chili pepper taste and heat heading into the finish. Pretty nice.

Can from Binny’s in Bloomingdale, IL. Very cool looking can, too. Very dark pour with pretty much no head. Aroma is cocoa and chilis. Taste is similar, albeit a touch bland. Decent heft to the palate. Okay.

355 ml bottle @ Pub Kultainen Apina, Tampere.
Pours dark red color with no head. Aroma of spices, some herbs, malts and pepper. Flavour of malts, spices like pepper, cardamum, apple pie, biscuits and some chocolate, faint dry cocoa powder notes also. Dry spicy palate. Weird.

Pour out of can, dark black pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of big chili, chocolate, nice cinnamon, earth, some coffee, toffee, sweet cocoa, nice balance overall. Taste is nice, a little watery, but nice chocolate, coffee, hints of chili and pepper notes, some cinnamon, toffee, finishing fairly sweet, bitter, and dry, with a slight hint of heat. This works fairly well.

Can. Head is initially average sized, frothy/fizzy, brown, fully diminishing. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is lightly malty (chocolate), with notes of detergent and other assorted cleaning products (Lysol, etc.), chile peppers, nutmeg/allspice, plastic (vinyl), shoe polish, pine needles, peppermint, etc. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, syrupy/watery texture, lively carbonation, light chile burn. Blech. Aroma is a combo of really weird off-notes and of course the vegetal peppers and some holiday spices. Very random and artificial smelling, doesn’t even smell like something you would eat/drink, it’s like something that wafts out of Yankee Candle Company 20 feet from the entrance. Pretty horrific stuff, quite honestly.

Can:   Black, deep cola hues on the edges, thin head, little to no lacing.   Soft roasted malt nose with a balanced pepper or chiles on the nose.   Sweet roasty start, with a little pepper background.   No real heat, perhaps a touch of chile spiciness that emerges moreso on the backside.   Seems well balanced between the sweeetness, the roasted malts, and the chile flavors/heat (what heat there is, and thankfully very little).   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   Chiles and a little bit of peppery heat linger.   Better than expected!
