Lacking nothing, at ten percent alcohol by volume and 95 International Bitterness Units, the Decadent truly represents all that is self indulgent when it comes to drinking beer.

A hazy amber ale with a very thin white head. A pleasant mineral floral hops a roma with light biscuitty malts. In mouth, a good malt base with resinous hops, light vanilla points, grapefruit and light alcohol in final. A good IPA but rather thin for a I2PA. Bottle bought at Bevmo, Sacramento, August 2005.

Picked up single 22-oz bomber from Johnís Market Place in Portland, Oregon. Pours a semi-cloudy golden pale brew with a decent off-white head that has some good lacing and retention. Aroma of sweet citrus, some light caramel roasted malt, grapefruit and a touch of pine. Taste is sweetened mildly bitter, morevsweet piney hop flavor than malt. Finish has a lingering mild bitter aftertaste along with a warm alcohol presence.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a murky, deep gold color. Medium sized, off-white head with a decent amount of lacing. Faint aroma of citrus hops with some caramel. Body is mainly sweet malts with minimal hop bitterness. This beer confuses me. For a IIPA, it is so very thin.

UPDATED: DEC 17, 2011 Hmmm, Iím not buying it. This is definitely one of the blandest DIPAs Iíve had. Decent looking (albeit with faint head and carbonation), thereís little aroma and very little distinction in the flavor. Where are the hops? Whereís the big body we expect from the style? Label and red wax are cool but this is not so good.

This is rated a little lower than I expected. I enjoyed the intense flavors. Bitter and full flavored hops. Gold color, and the bitter hops are balanced by sweet malt.

Had this beer on 5/5/2005. Aroma is a fresh hoppy citrus scent with tone of sweet malt. Color is bright gold with very low carbonation and thin head. Taste rich, smooth and hoppy. Starting with a medium body that goes down with a nice smooth feel and a maltiness coming on. Finish comes on with the malt flavor building to a rich feel and then a hoppy flavor coming in that has a bit of citrus to it. On the end is a nice mild bitterness and a feel of high alcohol. This strong alcohol taste on the end is the only down fall otherwise it is one of the best I.P.A.ís I have ever had.

Bold hoppy aroma and flavor to match. A very good IPA but Imperial? I donít think so, needs more hops and body.

On tap at Map Room, Chicago. Hard to believe itís an IIPA-- very bland. No huge hop aoma, no sweet hop/alcohol flavor. Just kind of boring and nothing to write home about. I was hoping to compare it to Dreadnaught-- no comparison.

This one was anything but decadent. Almost a joke of a beer to be honest, especially for claiming to be a 10% imperial. Almost aromaless - and flavorless too - strange. Alcohol was well hidden, but overall it was just a bland beer. Nice lookin bottle though.

Bomber bottle, shared with a friend. I have no idea why they pour wax over the top of a perfectly fine bottle cap but it gave me something to make a mess out of. Pours a clear orange with almost no head. Aromas were typical of most IPA or san diego style IPA and came in with some grapefruit and pine. Nothing too serious. Body was slightly oily with medium carbonation. Flavors were surprisingly light. Some malt, some hops, but seriously Iím not believing either the 95 IBUs or the 10% abv. If both of those numbers are right Iím not sure how they did it wtih this coming off as kind of an Imperial IPA Lite. Iím not saying this stuff is bad, but itís kind of empty. Iíve had single IPAís with more flavor. Now let me go play with my wax.
