2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a copper color with a small white head. Aromas of hops, citrus, and some sweets. For 10% alcohol itís hidden pretty well, nice hoppy, but still not that great for an Imperial IPA.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Appearance: Hazy darker shade of amber. White fluffy short head and good lacing.
Aroma: I pick up the aroma of pine resin and a strong caramel sweet malt scent. Pretty average fair.
Taste: Right up front I get a woody flavor, followed by the taste of caramel and a hint of alcohol. Back-bitterness is very earthy which really personifies the overall flavor of the beer. A lingering pine resin flavor in the mouth.
Palate: Fairly full bodied for an Imperial IPA. Lots of bitterness. Good carbonation.
Overall: It was decent but there wasnít a great deal of hop presence in the aroma. The hop flavors were predominantly earthy, being a bit woody and pine-like. There was an alcohol presence that stood out a bit too much for a 10% ABV beer as well. I enjoyed drinking it which is important, but itís not something I would look for in the future.

"Modus Hoperandi is a very good IPA, so hopes were high for this one, and it just didnít really live up. Almost barleywine like in body and texture. A nice enough flavor and aroma, but maltier and less floral and fruity than I prefer in any ipa, double or otherwise. May be better super fresh. Dunno. Not bad, but well below average for a favorite style."

Dark orange color with little head and carbonation. Very strong caramel flavor that overwhelms the hop character in my opinion.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
This was a grape bomb while still holding on to the taste profile of an Imperial IPA. There is a lovely viscosity to this beer as well. The website claims citrus notes that I do not get at all but the caramel malt is surely there. It tastes the full 10% of alcohol and it has the bitter punch to it but there is a serious amount of concord grape sweetness here that really adds an unusual layer to a beer style that can sometimes (letís face it) get a little boring.

Pour from bottle in Killeen Texas. Deep golden pour with weak head. Pretty good flavor with some sweetness. Don't really taste the 10%, I like it overall. Not fantastic, but very good.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Interesting honey sweetness mixed with grapefruit flavors. Booziness is masked and not very evident based on the high ABV%. Enjoyable and possibly repeatable.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 oz bottle from Total Wine in Tucson, served in a stem glass. Pours clear golden-amber with a medium beige head that fades to a thin cover and leaves a moderate amount of fine lace. The nose has big fruity notes, along with honey and bready malts. The flavour is intense, balanced between a moderate honey-fruity sweetness and a citric-piney bitterness. Notes of candy, malts and citrus peel also come through. It closes out with a long, peppery-spicy bitterness with a moderate sweetness. On the palate it is medium-full in body with a smooth, syrupy texture and soft carbonation. Overall, a nice imperial IPA with a fairly fruity character. I wonder if the nose has gone down with aging. It would be interesting to try a fresher bottle. 2014-07-19
