10 ounce draft. Aroma was a wood and blueberry mix, bordering on potpourri. Appearance was black, tan foam that disappeared after a short time, thin and liquidy. Taste was an interesting blend of wood, berries in a mixed fruit cup, and chocolate. Moderate sweetness. Palate was considerably light and uncarbonated. Overall, the unusual spin this one took on the traditional stout kept me interested. Itís not something Iíd go out of my way to hunt down, but it sits in the B+ range, the "worth a try" category.

12 oz. can from Total Wine - Pours a dark brown color with a one and a half finger thick light tan head. Light lacing. Aroma is lightly roasted malt, herbal hops, and light spice. Flavor is lightly sweetened roasted malt, a hint of smoke, herbal hops, and a touch of wood. Medium to full body. A good beer.

Aroma is primarily malty along with some vanilla, and dark fruit notes. Pours an opaque black with a rapidly dissipating tan head and minor lacing. The taste is moderately sweet. Roasty flavor up front gives way to multiple flavors. Coffee, chocolate, vanilla fruit and a hint of alcohol in the finish. Medium body with medium carbonation. Nice balanced mouthfeel between smooth and hoppy. Overall, a nice stout from Ska. Well done. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz can purchased as a single at Cork abd Barrel South in Lawrence, Kansas. Best By 18 APR 13 printed on the bottom rim of the can. The pour is a deep brown black with a 1/2 inch khaki head that has nice retention. The aroma is soft roast malt, red wine, and a bit of dark cocoa sweetness. The taste is sharp roast, bitter dark chocolate, a bit of grape juice, wood resin, and finishes with bitterness of the dark chocolate. Flavors were all a touch disparate, in particular the grape juice wine and roast didnít play together all that well. The palate is medium to heavy bodied, soft carbonation and an aftertaste of wine, roast, mineral and dry ash. Finish lingers. This is an interesting beer, unique flavor expressions - not sure it was for my particular tastes, though.

Tap. Black with a soapy tan head. Roast, coffee, and cream aroma. Malty, roasted and slightly bitter taste with a hint of wine. Creamy, smooth, and medium-full bodied with a soft oaky dryness. I think itís quite good.

From a purely aesthetic perspective I found this to be a lovely pour. That being said there was just something about this product that I found off. There was a sort of sweet/musty quality that I just found offputting. This is by no means a disaster but it isnít something I can recommend in good conscious unless you are really insatiably curious about the concept.

on Tap at The Petrol Station .. . pours a deep black .. mild foam .. . tar, black grapes and burnt raisins .. . medium mouth . . some ash in the finish, pretty good but the half pint was enough .. . . I have a fear of speed bumps, but I am slowly getting over it!

Tasted from a 12oz can into a nonic pint glass. It poured a dreamy, opaque black color with thick, fluffy, everlasting tan foam with lots of sticky lace. Aromas of whole-grain bread, toast, roasted grain, some definite fruity esters and peppery phenols. Flavours were the same plus hints of toffee, coffee with cream, raisins, plums, red wine. Tart, tangy, very toasty. Tannins of grape skins and hardwood. Strong foreign-stout alcohol was very well-hidden but I felt it in my bloodstream later. Nuanced and delicious.

Black, with a ring of foam. I get coffee and prune, with some winey notes. Taste is also coffee and wine, with some dark fruits, too. Dry, woody finish

12oz. can. Aroma of toasted, dark malt, the oak treatment and grape additions rather apparent as well, with touches of dark chocolate, earth and vanilla. Solid brown-black color, with a sparse, fading, tan head. Flavor profile is dominated by the roasty, dark malts, grape character and oak character, accented slightly with semi-sweet chocolate and black bread. Smoothly effervescent and fairly substantial on the palate, dry, with a medium-full body. I picked this up thinking it would be pretty similar to the Merlo Stout, but itís not that similar.
