3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours very dark brown with a deep tan head that leaves pretty quickly. The aroma has a bit of oak, smooth toast, red grapes/wine, licorice, oak and mild vanilla. There is a nice melding to all of the aspects. Full smooth body with lots of gentle flowing carbonation. The flavor starts with a delightful blend of semi-sweet grapes and roasty malt. Then anise joins in well along with nice woody grainy oak. The finish has some roasty bitterness, grapes, char and traces of coffee. Really well done. I’m liking this series a lot thus far.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Can. Poured a black/brown with tan head. Aroma was roasty, subdued coffee and cocoa and slight vinious notes. Taste was bold roasted malts, minor cocoa, with finishing swirls of dark fruits and tannic/viniousness. Not bad but finished quite thin for me.

Sample at a tasting at Systembolaget, March 2013.
Black with a tan head. Aroma of fruit, roasted malt, some wood and chocolate. The same in the taste. I liked the creamy mouth feel in this one.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pour is a black with a nice sized tan head. Aroma is a nice roasted malt with some bitter chocolate. Flavor is about the same. A nice roasted malt mouthfeel with a little coffee and chocolate left on the tounge. I don’t really get any of the oak or grape juice but this is still a pleasant stout.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz. can. Served in a snifter. Pours almost black, the color of motor oil. Thick, creamy head. Aromas of coffee and roasted malt, and the slight sweetness of the malbec grapes. Flavor of dark chocolate and oak –yet, surprisingly, almost no hint whatsoever of grapes. An enjoyable stout but not one I’d seek out amongst the sea of others.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pitch black with a thin beige head. Deep aroma of sweet roastiness and bittersweet chocolate. Flavor was pretty similar, and delightfully sweet. Initially there is some roasted black malt, with a touch of astringency, but then the sweet creamy chocolaty nougat tones come in, not necessarily cancelling out the roastiness but complimenting it...kinda like grilled chocolate, in a way. Has depth and a lasting finish. Very charming.

12 oz. can to pint glass, very dark black pour with a couple fingers worth of tan/mocha head. Really interesting nose, I really get the oak, wine, and heavy roast of a stout. Mouthfeel comes across a little watery but the flavors are also very interesting, the oaking and malbec grape juice give it an almost sour finish but the level of roast balances it out. I really like this, I would like it more if it had a little depth in the body. Still and interesting and nice take on this style.
