If you donít read the can close enough, you can buy a grape stout thinking its just a stout. I donít know why anyone would do this. It pours nearly black with a brown head, darker than most stouts. Smells good. Thin mouthfeel. At the first taste, itís not too bad, but the finishing taste begins to get tarter and tarter, more wine-like.

Can. Pours an opaque brown-black with hints of red highlights and a high, tan, coarse-grained head. Nose is mostly smoke, cinnamon, vanilla and coffee; there might be a slight hint of dark fruit. On the tongue, itís sweet with low carbonation; vanilla latte, nutmeg, and just a touch of wine. It has layers of spicy complexity that deepen the longer it stays in the mouth; an amazingly long, rich, and multifaceted finish that keeps changing. Very, very interesting.

Tap. Pours opaque black, small creamy brown head, nice lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, cocoa, red wine. Flavor is similar, perhaps a hint of oak, but not much, light sweet, light bitter. Medium body. Interesting.

This brew pours jet black with a medium tan head that diminishes steadily. Patchy lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and oak. Medium-bodied with flavors of roast coffee, charred malt, and chocolate. The finish is mocha and burnt malt. Pretty good overall.

Looks like a stout. Aroma of loam, wood, chocolate and a bit of fruit. Grape/wine notes are stronger in the taste but still quite light.

On tap at wine 101 in wake forest. Not as sweet as I thought it would be and I was happy about that. Overall a great stout that does not overpower your tastebuds.
