Pour on tap at the CO rare beer tasting 2012, dark reddish brown pour with slightly off white head, aroma brought notes of banana, toffee, spicy esters, touch of earth, chocolate, hints of sweet fruit in there as well. Taste is a mix of sweet caramel, toffee, some banana, spicy esters mixing into some fruit notes, finishing fairly sweet. Eh.

At Avery’s 2012 Strong Ale Fest. Clear bright gold with a thin foamy white head. Interesting aroma of pils malts with a touch of honey comb and fruity grass. Flavor is crisp but full. A bit of orange blossom honey, pils biscuity malt, and a smooth bitterness that doesn’t take away from the sweetness.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft on tap at the Hop Juice Festival (Warrenville, IL). Pours a nice glowing golden hue, well hazed, with some shiny orange gold elements, a decent sized frothy brighter white head atop dies to a ring clinging film, small lacing. Aromas are typical Pils malts and yeast, with that touch of yeasty skunk, some honey, bread, and light orange and florals. Mellow and firm at the same time, with a touch of spiciness coming through. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, surprisingly palatable for an Imperial Pils, with orange and florals, honey and bread, with a touch of yeastiness. Still, quite smooth with sweeter orange overall, really easy on the palate for a bigger beer, a bit sweet. Into the end, light spice and bigger mellow sweetness. Really catch the orange blossom essence well, with light florals and gentle fruity sweetness. Pretty nice actually, maybe a touch of heat grows on the backend, light floral and earthy bitterness, faint ABV kicks in. Really, a better interesting Imperial Pils for once. It’s not my type of beer, but I can say this is a better more drinkable version.
