It’s Old Man Bitter

A mix of citrus and pine that will remind you of the time you went on a vision quest with your Native American cousin and you woke up in a pine grove full of grapefruit trees.

An American-style India Pale Ale with a deep golden-orange color. Bitter and hoppy, with a surprisingly smooth finish.

Modus Hoperandi, an IPA sitting at 6.8% ABV and 65 IBUs.

UPDATED: FEB 22, 2015 Drucken på burk. Överraskande bra bira. Fin kopparfärg med vit krona. Smaker av citrus, persika och tallskog. En del humle. Lättdrucken och väldigt god.

Picked up a single can from total wine with a best by date of 4/13/15. Drinking it at the pool, so straight out of the can. Great aroma out of the can very inviting. Very nice mouthfeel. Tropical fruit galore. Top knotch beer. Worthy of its high rating.

Can. Hazy dark amber pour with significant white head. Aroma is lovely. Lots of peach and citrus. Taste is very balanced - can something be too balanced?. Well this all together very nice. Medium carbonation

Aroma is citrus pine candied sugar and caramel. Appearance is hazy copper with small off white head. Taste is piney citrus floral aroma hopping forward. Sweet caramel maltiness with a crisp bitterness present. More malt than most IPA’s. Palate is crisp with a lingering sweetness and aroma hopping. Overall very nice. Malt is unique and hops are done well.

Piney hop aroma. Clear darker yellow. Huge hop profile overwhelms any malt present. Dry clean crisp finish. A super nice ipa.

Don’t think this beer has travelled well as the hops while evident are very muted.

This is a good example of an US IPA. It has a dual hit of character with desserty stonefruit-like malts and then riotous spruce and redwood hoppiness. It is all at once sweet and bitter with a good slick body. Plenty to like here.

Bottle from SB. Nice amber color, good aroma. An IPA that is easy to drink, good!

Can best before March 28, 2015.
Glass: New Belgium globe.
Appearance: Hazy amber body with a dense light tan head that compliments the base nicely.
Aroma: Aroma is tea like with a malt forward vibe to it. Hints of grapefruit on the nose, but this smells like it’s a bit past it’s date despite the best by on the can.
Taste: Mild to moderately bitter, a bit of malt, but crisper than I expected. Some floral and pine flavors with some grapefruit pith and black tea lingering after the sip.
Palate: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: I’m thinking that this is past date, the hop profile tastes a bit past its freshness and the malts are a bit forward. Please breweries switch to a bottled/canned on date!
