It’s Old Man Bitter

A mix of citrus and pine that will remind you of the time you went on a vision quest with your Native American cousin and you woke up in a pine grove full of grapefruit trees.

An American-style India Pale Ale with a deep golden-orange color. Bitter and hoppy, with a surprisingly smooth finish.

Modus Hoperandi, an IPA sitting at 6.8% ABV and 65 IBUs.

I had this at home from a can poured into a tulip glass. The cans were acquired while on a trip to Chicago. It pours amber with a nice head. The aroma is not strong with faint resinous and piney qualities. The taste is nice. It’s fairly balanced, with grapefruit and pine standing out and hint of pineapple. It has more malt backbone than some comparable American IPAs, so it has medium sweetness coupled with a medium bitterness. Overall, a solid IPA.

12 oz can. Pours a cloudy deep orange with a two-finger bright white head that leaves plenty of lacing. Aroma of white bread, tangerine, orange, pine and tobacco. Taste is tangerine, orange, pine, white bread and caramel malts. Bitterness comes through very well and balances out with the malt perfectly. Long dry and bitter finish of tangerine, dough, white bread and caramel malts. Medium bodied, but much fuller than most IPAs. Silky smooth texture, average carbonation. Excellent IPA here!

Can from Bruisin’ Ales. Amber pour with a frothy white head. Big grapefruit aroma with cantaloupe and melon with a good malt backing. Similar in flavor with a dry slightly bitter finish that’s fairly quick. Not too shabby.

Can. Hazy orange. Aroma is citrusy, caramel, honey. Taste is the quintessential IPA mix of herbal pine and citrus with a nice malt balance. There is no wow factor, but that’s OK because it’s done just right. This one should be a 100/100 for style.

Nice easy drinking IPA. Piney and citrusy just like the description says. Little bit of a malt body in the middle, not very hoppy, but enough for what it is.

Can. Pours a clear amber color. Thin off white head with some nice lacing. Strong aromas of pine resin and citrus. Taste is relatively bitter @65. Tatse is pine resin & citrus, with a bit of sweet caramel. Nice malty backbone on this one. A little heavier than your average IPA. Very nice.

Pours a hazy golden brown from the van with fluffy off-white head that leaves light lace. Aroma of bright citrus, grapefruit, and pine hops with a nice sweet malt background. Taste is more balanced between the malt and the hops, but nice resinous hop bite on the back end. Bitterness that lasts for a nice long whole, and lingering hop cattiness. Wow, this is as good as I have heard, nicely done.

Poured from the can of a six pack into a pint glass, nice amount of foam and lacing, great IPA flavor. I love good beer in the can, and I love when a beer teaches me something. The commercial description speaks of a vision quest, which I have now learned about, and I now know what the term "Lip up fatty" means, and have a new song to listen to. Overall not a bad day.

"here’s a very nice canned IPA that could easily be mistaken for a double it’s so packed with flavor and is a little on the heavy/sticky side. bright aroma and flavor. tons of citrus and pine, but nice malty backbone as well. just a well done brew."
