It’s Old Man Bitter

A mix of citrus and pine that will remind you of the time you went on a vision quest with your Native American cousin and you woke up in a pine grove full of grapefruit trees.

An American-style India Pale Ale with a deep golden-orange color. Bitter and hoppy, with a surprisingly smooth finish.

Modus Hoperandi, an IPA sitting at 6.8% ABV and 65 IBUs.

On tap at the Yardhouse in Denver. Colour...clear, dark amber with a thick ecru head. Nose...musty hops and spent grain. Palate...lightly carbonated and rather dry, to start. Then comes the bitterness! Graciously hoppy and definitely leaning towards the piney side. Mid palate, the flavours switch to a more fruity array. The finish is slightly tart and quite bitter.

Pours copper with a long lasting off white foamy head. Aroma of grapefruit type citrus with a little burn to it and some grassy notes further down. Taste is sweet citrus, lemon, followed by a mellow malt and finished with a perfectly weighted bitterness. This is a great beer.

Can at home. Amber orange pour. Aroma is sweet malt with some fresh citrus . Full bodied. Fruity floral hops with notes of jasmine and orange give way to a very sweet malty base. Finishes bitter and fruity.

Pours deep amber with low head. Good amount of hops even if it seems old. Citrus and resin drives the beer with a moderate malty base.

[On-tap at Ska] Reddish amber with a nice off-white head. Aroma is citrusy grapefruit, and hard to get a lot else with the sampler. Good level of bitterness in the taste, with a decent amount of grapefruit and some mild muskmelon and watermelon rind up front. This gives way to a solid amount of malt towards the end. Good full mouthfeel; smooth, long finish. A very solid IPA, but doesn’t quite bump up into the spectacular range.

Can from Beer Gonzo, Coventry. Love this beer, strong aromas of pine, sweet orange, slightly onion, dank as anything. Taste is marmalade, tropical fruits, nice malty background. Decent bitter finish but not a tongue scraper. This is exceptional.
