Itís Old Man Bitter

A mix of citrus and pine that will remind you of the time you went on a vision quest with your Native American cousin and you woke up in a pine grove full of grapefruit trees.

An American-style India Pale Ale with a deep golden-orange color. Bitter and hoppy, with a surprisingly smooth finish.

Modus Hoperandi, an IPA sitting at 6.8% ABV and 65 IBUs.

Hop bomb with a noticeable malt backbone, but it all seems to come together nicely with the piney hops. Finishes smooth and tasty. This could be trouble.

The aroma is strong with this one, cascades from hops invade your nostrils and citrus, pine and also a touch of herbs fight together, working their way up your sinuses. The taste is medium-heavy malts with the hops skating on the malt base like a rebellious gang of street punks, doing ollies and kickflips between the boardslides and grinding on your gumline. Afterwards there is a resinous aura and a long lasting bitterness that keeps you company for quite a while. I love this beer, and I always have a couple at home as an emergency kit when everything else fails.

Can from Chips. Pours clear Amber with a medium sized off white head. The aroma has a medium citrus note, plenty of earthy hop notes, some pine and resin. The taste has a medium bitterness, a ton of grapefruit citrus, a bit sweet on the finish. Fairly easy to drink but not quite as good as Iíd hoped.

From a can. Orange Amber appearance. Darker than anticipated. Pine aroma, wonderful palate. No overwhelming alcohol flavor. Like it very much.

Has a nice golden color with thick white foam. Really nice piny aroma and the taste is likewise really great, with a perfect bitterness and the taste and aroma of pinetrees. Makes me want to take a long walk through a pineforrest with a sixpack of Modus Hoperandi. Really like this beer!

I had this at home from a can poured into a tulip glass. The cans were acquired while on a trip to Chicago. It pours amber with a nice head. The aroma is not strong with faint resinous and piney qualities. The taste is nice. Itís fairly balanced, with grapefruit and pine standing out and hint of pineapple. It has more malt backbone than some comparable American IPAs, so it has medium sweetness coupled with a medium bitterness. Overall, a solid IPA.

12 oz can. Pours a cloudy deep orange with a two-finger bright white head that leaves plenty of lacing. Aroma of white bread, tangerine, orange, pine and tobacco. Taste is tangerine, orange, pine, white bread and caramel malts. Bitterness comes through very well and balances out with the malt perfectly. Long dry and bitter finish of tangerine, dough, white bread and caramel malts. Medium bodied, but much fuller than most IPAs. Silky smooth texture, average carbonation. Excellent IPA here!

Can from Bruisiní Ales. Amber pour with a frothy white head. Big grapefruit aroma with cantaloupe and melon with a good malt backing. Similar in flavor with a dry slightly bitter finish thatís fairly quick. Not too shabby.
