3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Can into tulip glass. Nice white head that stays on top of the shiny, bronze brew all the way. An oily IPA in appearance, taste, and finishes. That leads to a somewhat flat mouthfeel, more like some big barleywines. Other than the texture, itís a nice, solidly aggressive IPA with earthy, grassy hops and a long, bitter finish. Seems stronger than it is.

Can. Best by date of 12/01/11 - this being only 6/21/11 I wouldnít want to hold onto it unitl December but meh what do I know. Poured into a tulip glass dark copper color with a 1 finger light tan head that settles down at a medium pace. Not overly fruity aroma but definite notes of grapefruit/orange. Some floral type notes as well. Medium mouthfeel. Grapefruit, metallic, and then a building bitterness that seems to get fairly bitter. Lingering bitterness. This IPA just didnít fit well with me. IMO not very balanced and had some off flavors both in the nose and the taste. Minimal lace.

Can from Bruisiní Ales. Canned IPA: smart. I actually have just passed on picking this up because I have never been impressed by SKA, even their double IPA was just okay. Brian and Bruisiní Ales spoke quite highly of Modus Hoperandi and the guy knows his stuff. Right after the pour Iím quite impressed. This is way better than the Decandent IIPA, just by aroma alone. This one is very, very dank with lots of pine and herbs and a sticky, resinous scent. The first thing I think is that I need to buy some cans every time I go back. The palate is spot on, just sticky enough. Great flavor here too. Lots of evergreen and even notes of mint with some smooth caramel-tasting malts. This is absolutely great. It could be the best IPA Iíve had in a can so far.

12 oz can pours a clear amber with a 1 finger head. Aroma is grapefruity cascade hops, mild pine, and toffee sweetness. Very dank and hop-forward. Body is medium but with enough carbonation to lend it a lightly creamy mouthfeel..just perfect for a session IPA. Flavor is resinous hops, then more hops, then some mild toffee sweetness, then light alcohol burn that infuses itself with a lasting piney bitterness and a dry, dry finish. This is one of my top 3 value priced, go-to, session IPAs alonside New Belgium Ranger and (the best in my opinion) Averyís canned IPA. Great for the summer.
