Itís Old Man Bitter

A mix of citrus and pine that will remind you of the time you went on a vision quest with your Native American cousin and you woke up in a pine grove full of grapefruit trees.

An American-style India Pale Ale with a deep golden-orange color. Bitter and hoppy, with a surprisingly smooth finish.

Modus Hoperandi, an IPA sitting at 6.8% ABV and 65 IBUs.

Beautiful dark gold. A nose of hops you can smell from 2 feet away. Freshly mown grass, rubber and wildflowers. Head leaves quickly, but glass is laced nicely. Taste is fresh and clean. Hops are not near the onslaught the aroma hinted at. Nice balance. Not my style but I would drink it again. Very pleasantly quenching. Third and final flavor from the SKA mixed twelve-pack. Certainly the best of the three.

This is a solid IPA, with many characteristics of an imperial IPA. It has a good mix of hops flavors that arenít drowned out by the bitterness or the alcohol. Rich golden color.

On tap at the Flying Saucer in Austin. Clear and red-orange with a thin head that lightly covers the full surface of the beer. Light lacing. Nose is reminiscent of peaches and citrus. The flavor is fairly malty-sweet but still light, with warm citrus tones and a mild/medium bitter bite at the finish. Somewhat low carbonation - that might just be this particular tap - but very smooth and pleasant. Really an awesome IPA, and very refreshing out in the 95-degree heat. I NEED to find the cans of this one...

A deep amber pour with off-white head. The nose is dominated with pine and citrus. The medium body has a bitter taste that retains a malty, caramel backbone. A very nice IPA.

Bottle thanks to Bardwashrind (BA)!
Fiery amber body with a soapy white head. Nose is soap, pine, some caramel malt sweetness adding a light balance. Bitter flavor is astringently soapy, some grapefruit and pine. Lightly grassy and salty finish to the moderate body. Quite clean and bitter, but the hop could use some balance, whether with different variety or more malt. It comes off singular and lightly offensive as is, particularly in the flavor.

On tap and, for this rating, a12oz can from Kegs and Barrels in Plano. Pours a glowing light copper body topped with an ivory head that leaves some nice lacing. Aroma of both piney and citrus hops. Some tangerine notes really come through. Flavor of bready/caramel malt balanced by citrus (orange zest/grapefruit) hops. Lightly floral in the end. Medium bitter finish. Medium mouthfeel and body. Solid and a very easy drinker.

Pours a hazy orange amber. Strong floral aroma with a hint of malt. Flavor is floral, citrus with malt to balance.

Copper color in the glass with a thin offwhite head. Citrus and spruce hop aromas. Hop bitterness on the palate is tempered nicely by the malty base. Thick, rich mouthfeel. Good stuff.
