It’s Old Man Bitter

A mix of citrus and pine that will remind you of the time you went on a vision quest with your Native American cousin and you woke up in a pine grove full of grapefruit trees.

An American-style India Pale Ale with a deep golden-orange color. Bitter and hoppy, with a surprisingly smooth finish.

Modus Hoperandi, an IPA sitting at 6.8% ABV and 65 IBUs.

Burk 355 ml.

Can. Amber with beige head. Aroma of lime, peach, grass. Malty and sweet at first with a very dry bitter finish. Almost goes all Campari on me...which is good, when I drink Campari. Here it seems to lack some depth and complexity in the bitterness. Still pretty decent.

Digg aroma av barnåler og grapefrukt. Fresh! Fyldig med dyp sødme og markant bitterhet, men godt balansert. Flott øl. 27.03.15 Havnabakken.

Can, aroma piney grapefruit with hints of sweaty cheese, nice and malty, not too bitter light hop astringency. A well crafted beer

Aroma starts with straw and picks up citrus as well. Gives somewhat of a dry and mostly bitter finish with hints of citrus lingering. Decent beer.

Aroma: straw, hay, floral hops, fruity flavours. Appearance: dark gold, medium, frothy, white head. Taste: medium bitter. Palate: turning quite bitter, some earl grey tea, some sweetness in the background. Overall: amazing flavours across the whole spectrum. Can at Dukes Brew & Que, Haggerston.

Poured from a 12 oz can. This is a classic American ipa. Doesn't try to be fancy, but nails the bitterness and aroma of an American ipa ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sampled on draught at the Horseshoe in Hampstead (they have an amazing selection of draught beers since the recent refurbishment!).Copper/brown colour with a white head. Intoxicating aromas of tropical fruit and pine. the taste struck me initially as rather wierd - I was expecting a malt taste initially but what I got was very choclatey. Unexpected and not entirely pleasing. Are they using chocolate malts? Anyway, the very powerful hops flavours kick in later - lots of pine, grass and grapefruit skin. Full of flavour, but mouth-puckeringly astringent. I found it so bitter I could not finish it. Some of these American IPAs are not easy to drink. Perhaps they are aimed at winning competitions rather than just providing an enjoyable pint?
