Bottle. Pours dark brown with pillowy tan head, settles fairly quickly with thin lace. Aroma is sweet and fruity, mild sweet, toasted malt. Tastes sweet, nutty malt, mild soy sauce, with a mild chocolate/cocoa finish. Not a big fan of the malts used. Better as it warms. Moderate carbonation and medium body.

22oz bottle (Old Notes)-Pours a dark brown almost black. Aroma of malts and cocoa. Taste of chocolate, malts, and more sweetness. This medium bodied brew is not bad but a bit too sweet for a porter.

Bottle shared by Nick... Thanks! Wax dipped bomber pours black brown with small mocha head. Aroma of cocoa and roast, not much else. Taste was different than what I was expecting, cherry fruitiness, slight tart, cocoa powder, and a little bit of bitterness. Good!

Tap. The smell is roasty, coffee, burnt malts, and ok. The taste is roast, milk chocolate, cocoa, and has a sweetish finish. The look is brown with red tinges and a thinner tan head.

A really nice deep dark pour w/ a big tan head that fades into a large among of lacing. The aroma has huge chocolate notes w/ possibly some subtle cherry. The taste is really light on the palate. It’s got a big chocolate flavor up front w/ some sweetness towards the end instead of the typical bitterness you would expect to find in a porter. Well done!

Bottle at Brewdog Glasgow, Scotland (£12 for 650ml):
Caramel & dark chocolate malts with light alcohol on the nose, covered for the most part by the rich aroma of chocolate and some coffee. There is a slight sweetness and some darker fruits such as plums and figs.
Jet black colour with a few bubbles around the surface. Opaque & still.
Chocolate & some coffee and a touch more alcohol than was apparent in the aroma but still not very much at all. More sweet in flavour too with a few darker fruits coming through alongside vanilla and yet more chocoate.
Smooth with moderate carbonation and a medium to full body. There is a hint of alcohol and the beer is a dry one on the palate & the balance is excellent.

Excellent from the start and well worth the premium I paid for it at a bar. A great beer and one of the smoothest and easiest high abv. dark beers I think I’ve had; certainly the best in some time anyway.

From notes. Tasted at Curtis’s house, probably early 2012, from a waxed and capped 650mL bomber bottle. Pours nearly black, opaque dark brown with an average tan head that leaves thin lace with some lacy residue. The nose is darkly roasted coffee and dark chocolate with a hint of burnt and green hops bitterness. The flavor is full of dark chocolate and molasses with cocoa powder and a touch of vanilla. The body is full with average carbonation and a long darkly roasted and touch of vanilla finish.
