Bottle. Pours out in a black colour with a firm tan coloured head. Really sticky sweet aroma of brown sugar, white sugar, caramel and milky chocolate. Full-bodied with sticky sweet notes of chocolate, cookies, and boring milky French coffee. Long sweet finish of chocolate sauce, caramel with hints of hazelnuts. Way too sweet and it’s definitely lacking soul.

On tap poured a clear brown hue w/ medium tan head fully dimmed and sticky lacing. Moderate roasty malt and sweet chocolate aromas. Initial flavor is moderate sweet w/ a light bitter finish. Tastes are brown sugar, fig, chocolate, light roast coffee and graham cracker. Full bodied. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cellared for several years. Some chocolate but stronger flavors of dried fruit. Well done.

Small head with minor lacing. Aroma of chocolate, booze, and some vegetal and syrupy malt off-aromas, unfortunately. Flavor: better and more complex - chocolate, booze, vegetal off-flavor, smoke, licorice, cream. Good, but could have been better. Not my favorite impy porter, and I love this style.

2015 bottle. Dark brown with a light tan head. Aroma is big umami with a bit of cat fish bait and chocolate malt. Taste is big malt and chocolate with a nice herbal hop bite. Very light semi dry mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark cola color with khaki colored head on the surface. Smells of umami, tomato, caramel malt. Almost has an oak barrel smell even though it's not the barrel aged version. Taste is a roasty coffee, chocolate. Nothing like how it smells. Also has a tea, tannic quality with a little spicy charred hops at the end. Not bad overall, but I don't care for the smell. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

600cl bottle shared in a snifter. Pours dark brown almost black with very little head or carbonation. Aroma is subtle chocolate and coffee with the former being more apparent in the taste. Medium mouthfeel which is perfectly suited to the 8% ABV. Flavours are of dusted milk chocolate and raisin like dried fruits. Very little bitterness.

(Bottle aged for 12 months): Pours pitch black with a mocha head that dissipated quickly. Aroma of chocolate malt, smoke, coffee, bread. Flavours are big on bready, thick treacle and malt. Dark chocolate hints on the finish, slight mellow alcohol taste too which isn’t detrimental. Perfect Christmas night beer.
