This English Special Bitter is our “Special Ale.” Special because it is one of only a handful of canned microbrews in the nation. Special because the Galena hops and pale ale malts create a crisp first sip, a hoppy tongue, and a malty sweet finish. Though “bitter” is part of the name, “better” would be a more accurate term. Fresh and lively, this canned beer suits the needs of any outdoor enthusiast. Like it says on the can: Fish, Luau, Golf, Raft, Toboggan. Ska can!

My favourite beer right now. Rich, full bodied. Good flavour and palette that are not too overpowering. Above average alchohol content. And easily recycled can!

A soft reddish brown hue covers the glass with small bubbles and dense head. This beer has a earthy start with an almost tart/bitter sweet ending. An awesome beer for an introduction to what craft beer is all about!

Poured from a can, substantial head and hearty aroma. As the head subsides malt comes through to dominate the aroma. Pleasing light malt flavors pair well with substantial hops. One of my favorites.

THOUGHTS: Fairly British, but it could almost pass as an amber ale. Very nice beer. I’m a little surprised by the low ratings. I would definitely get this again if it become available in my area. Great balance. TECHNICAL: Can. Poured a clear, light to medium copper with a large, sudsy, off-white head that slowly diminished, but kept a thin head throughout and left excellent lacing. The aroma was nice but a little weak. It had moderate to heavy malts, toasted and nutty malts, caramel and slight sour malt; light hops; slight honey; and a little bit of fruit. The initial flavor was sweet, lightly bitter and slightly acidic; while the finish was lightly sweet, bitter, lightly acidic and ever so slightly sour with an average duration. There was malt, toast, biscuit, tea, lemony hops, herbal hops, slight metallic hops, a slight fruitiness, a little nuttiness and caramel. The light to medium body was a little dry and lightly fizzy with a dry and slightly metallic finish.

Pours a clear amber with a perfect white head. There is little aroma, but a solid mouthful. Nice combination of flavor and texture. A little creamy, and good. I’m enjoying this beer!

Decent beer. I thought it was better than its ratings. Pours amber with a light head. Malty and caramel. Some floral notes. Nice beer.

12oz can. clear orange with a few yeast chunks under a medium, frothy, head. light malt aroma with a touch of floral hop. a nice toasted malt flavor that leaves a bready, nutty aftertaste. medium bodied and smooth, almost milky texture. also has a light green, fruity bitterness.

Clear medium copper, very light pillowy head. Aroma of toffee, citrus hops, and slight pineapple ester. Taste was bright and sweet. Lots of toffee with a flowery hop backbone. Moderately sweet but equally as flowery hopped, yet not too bitter. Its like a very flavorful Pale Ale but without the bitterness, plus a mild caramel semi-sweet finish. Tasty beer!

Who gave this such a LOW rating? Found the aroma to be quite floral. Nice head disipated to a frothy ring around the glass. Appearance was an off orange, somewhat dark. You get the hops in the taste but they are not overpowering due to the extra malty flavor that comes peeking through. the after taste is a nice bittering hop. The mouthfeel is very nice and pleasing. Overall, this will make for a very fine session beer, or even a good Boat beer this Summer!

Can courtesy of Casey, cheers mate! Consumed in a field at Truck Festival, Steventon, Oxon 19.07.13 watching The Family Rain (new band for me) Pours hazy mud brown with off white head. Nose is hoppy but my factor 50 suntan spray is rather clouding matters a little. Very soft carbonation, oodles of fresh hop juiciness, leaving a dry tanginess, however the spliff that Gary has just thrust my way is also affecting my taste buds a little. Decent hoppy beer that slips down well whilst watching The Family Rain do their stuff in wonderful blisteringly hot sunshine. Beer & Music festivals, marvellous... A8 A4 T7 P4 Ov15 3.8
